Field Engineer Intern

We are currently seeking Field Engineer Interns to join our Internship Program. Field Engineer Interns will help support the scope of work for assigned construction projects and support our field teams. Through this 12-week internship, participants may rotate between several lines of work, including Preconstruction/Estimating, Industrial, and Manufacturing. Participants will work alongside tenured Project Managers or Project Engineers throughout the entire life cycle of current construction projects.

Responsibilities

Through the summer internship program, participants will:

  • Coordination with Project Engineers and Field Superintendents: Field Engineers works closely with project engineers and field superintendents to support field operations. This involves frequent communication to ensure that the project is progressing as planned in terms of safety and quality.
  • Survey and Layout: Field Engineers are often responsible for surveying and layout work to ensure accurate installations. This may include creating lift drawings to guide the placement of materials and equipment.
  • Quality Control: Actively participating in quality control programs is essential. Field Engineers play a key role in ensuring that work meets the required quality standards by conducting inspections and implementing quality control measures.
  • Participation in Project Meetings: Regular participation in both daily and weekly project meetings is necessary to stay updated on project progress, discuss issues, and coordinate activities with other team members.
  • Document Management: Ensuring that Field Superintendents and Foremen have access to up-to-date contract documents, drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings is crucial for keeping the project on track.
  • Issue Reporting: Field Engineers promptly report any field issues to the Project Engineer and Field Superintendent. This allows for swift problem resolution and minimizes delays.
  • Quantity Tracking: Field Engineers are responsible for tracking and reporting the quantities of installed materials and equipment on a weekly basis. This is essential for project cost control and progress assessment.
  • Equipment and Material Management: Managing the storage and maintenance of equipment and materials on-site is necessary to ensure that resources are readily available and in good condition.
  • Record Drawings and As-Builts: Maintaining accurate record drawings and as-builts as per contract requirements is important for future reference and documentation.
  • Permit Document Maintenance: Field Engineers may be responsible for managing permit documents, such as those related to dust control and stormwater pollution prevention (SWPPP).
  • Project Progress Photos: Gathering weekly project progress photos can help document the project's development and provide visual updates to project stakeholders.
  • Training and Mentoring: Field Engineers often play a role in, sharing their knowledge and expertise to help develop the next generation of professionals.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Building rapport with owners, clients, engineers, and trade partners is important. Field Engineers must also ensure that the project complies with all contractual obligations and requirements.

Qualifications

  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and effectively communicate with others
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Positive and teachable attitude

This is a safety sensitive position, and all applicable policies including drug test and background check will apply.

Applicant must be currently enrolled in a four-year Construction Management or Engineering program.

This internship will provide you with exposure to the construction and project management industry, allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world situations. You will gain hands-on experience, work with experienced professionals, and contribute to the success of our projects.
