Regional Environmental Health Safety Specialist -South
At Klosterman Baking Company, safety is everyone’s responsibility. The EHS Compliance Specialist plays a key role in supporting our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Compliance programs across the bakery. This position works closely with the Sr. EHS Manager, bakery leadership, and employees to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
The EHS Compliance Specialist spends significant time on the production floor building relationships, identifying hazards, supporting training efforts, and helping ensure employees return home safely every day.
Reports To: Sr. EHS Manager
Facilities: Cincinnati, OH and Hebron, KY
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of company safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with compliance efforts related to OSHA, EPA, local environmental regulations, and company standards.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, observations, and workplace assessments.
- Identify hazards, communicate findings, and assist departments in developing corrective actions.
- Assist with maintaining regulatory records, permits, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Support environmental programs,including wastewater, SPCC, stormwater, waste management, and chemical management programs.
Employee Engagement & Safety Culture
- Build strong relationships with employees and supervisors through regular floor presence.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and employee engagement initiatives.
- Encourage employee involvement through hazard reporting, safety observations, and near-miss reporting.
- Respond to employee concerns and ensure timely follow-up on safety issues.
- Promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
Training & Onboarding
- Coordinate and conduct new hire safety orientationwhen needed.
- Facilitate safety training programs, toolbox talks, and refresher training as required.
- Assist with managing training records and Learning Management System (LMS) requirements.
- Conduct contractor and visitor safety orientations.
- Help ensure all required safety training remains current and compliant.
Incident Management
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
- Participate in injury, illness, near-miss, and property damage investigations.
- Track corrective actions and verify completion.
- Support reporting requirements and documentation related to workplace incidents.
Program Development & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with developing and updating safety procedures, SOPs, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Support implementation of company safety initiatives and annual objectives.
- Assist with industrial hygiene activities,including noise monitoring, air sampling, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and chemical exposure evaluations.
- Participate in special projects focused on improving employee safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Quality teams to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and environmental compliance.
- Assist with tracking environmental metrics and sustainability performance indicators.
- Partner with bakery leadership to identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve operational efficiency.
- Promote employeeawareness and engagement in sustainability programs and initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to deliver training and speak confidently in front of groups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications,including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends and off-shift support as needed.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, EnvironmentalScience, orrelated field.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, food production, or industrial environments.
- OSHA 10, OSHA 30, ASP, or other EHS certifications.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental compliance, and food manufacturing safety programs.
- Experience with audits, incident investigations, training, and safety management systems.
- Being bilingual is a plus.
