Position Overview
International’s Huntsville Powertrain Plant is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support and strengthen how environmental requirements are executed in daily operations. This role is not just about permits and reporting—you will help ensure environmental compliance is clearly understood, consistently applied, and built into how work is done on the floor.
You will play a key role in driving compliance and sustainability improvements that protect our environment and our customers, ensuring our processes support both regulatory expectations and the long-term quality and reliability of our products.You’ll work closely with Supervisors, Team Leaders, and support teams to turn environmental requirements into standard work, reinforce expectations, and help the plant stay audit-ready at all times.
This role plays a critical part in managing our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and driving sustainability improvements across the plant, with a strong focus on energy, water, and waste. You will ensure our environmental systems are not only compliant, but actively improving how we operate and reducing overall impact.
Schedule: Monday through Thursday 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) – daily execution, maintenance, and continuous improvement
- Compliance and sustainability performance across air, water, and waste
- Energy, water, and waste reduction initiatives that improve both environmental and operational performance
- Integration of environmental expectations into daily operations
- Audit and inspection readiness at all times
- Manage and maintain the ISO 14001 Environmental Management
- System, ensuring it is actively used and not treated as a standalone system
- Drive sustainability improvements focused on energy, water, and waste reduction
- Identify and implement practical improvements that reduce environmental impact while supporting production needs
- Support internal and external ISO 14001 audits, including preparation, execution, and corrective actions
- Ensure environmental metrics are tracked, understood, and used to drive improvement, not just reported
- Support compliance execution on the floor – verify processes are being followed in real time
- Drive improvements that strengthen both compliance and sustainability performance
- Translate environmental requirements into clear, practical expectations for operations teams
- Assist with environmental audits and inspections – preparation, execution, and follow-up
- Monitor environmental conditions and exposures to ensure controls are effective
- Identify gaps and escalate early to prevent larger compliance risks
- Maintain and support permits (air, water, waste) and associated requirements
- Support hazardous waste management including storage, labeling, and shipment
- Help develop and deliver training that builds understanding and reinforces correct behaviors
- Partner with Supervisors and Team Leaders to reinforce expectations and improve consistency
- Serve as a resource for environmental compliance questions and support interpretation of requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation and records to support compliance and audit readiness
- Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of environmental health and safety experience
- Master's degree and no experience
- At least 3 years of environmental health and safety experience
- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements (air, water, waste)
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear, practical actions for the floor
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on consistent execution and follow-through
- Experience supporting or participating in audits and regulatory inspections
- Ability to identify gaps early and act with urgency to resolve them
- Experience improving processes to strengthen compliance and sustainability performance
- Understanding of hazardous waste handling, storage, and shipment requirements
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence without authority
- Ability to build trust with operations while reinforcing standards
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Basic data tracking and documentation skills to support compliance and audit readiness
- Demonstrated ability to connect environmental compliance to operational impact and customer protection
