Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Aerospace / Avionics Obsolescence Engineer to lead the identification, analysis, and resolution of component obsolescence issues in aerospace and avionics systems. You will play a key role in ensuring system longevity, compliance, and readiness by managing part availability, lifecycle risks, and redesign strategies across legacy and active platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess the obsolescence risk of avionics and aerospace components, including electronic, mechanical, and software-based parts.
  • Identify and validate alternate parts, redesign options, or lifetime buys to mitigate obsolescence issues.
  • Work closely with design, supply chain, logistics, and program teams to coordinate proactive obsolescence resolution strategies.
  • Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and third-party databases (e.g., IHS Markit, SiliconExpert) to track part lifecycle status.
  • Support design updates, requalification, and testing for parts or systems impacted by obsolescence.
  • Maintain and update product lifecycle databases, obsolescence management tools, and configuration control systems.
  • Develop long-term obsolescence mitigation plans, including DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages) strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, trade studies, and cost analyses for obsolescence-driven redesigns.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and contractual requirements regarding sustainment and configuration.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in obsolescence management, sustainment engineering, or avionics lifecycle support.
  • Familiarity with avionics system architectures and component-level design (COTS, custom PCBs, connectors, etc.).
  • Experience with part lifecycle and obsolescence tools (e.g., SiliconExpert, IHS Markit, Z2Data).
  • Strong understanding of configuration management and product change control processes.
  • Knowledge of military and commercial aerospace standards (e.g., DO-254, MIL-STD-1553, RTCA DO-160, AS5553).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with legacy platform support in commercial or defense aerospace.
  • Understanding of counterfeit parts mitigation and component traceability practices.
  • Familiarity with PLM/ERP tools (e.g., Pentagon).
  • Knowledge of obsolescence risk metrics and sustainment cost modeling.
  • Active Security Clearance or eligibility.

Organized and proactive in managing long-term engineering risks.
