In this pivotal role, the Assistant City Attorney earns a competitive annual salary of $91,486.80 - $102,969.20/DOQ. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. We also offer a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match, life insurance, disability, access to the city's recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays and 2 designated paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and an active wellness program focusing on physical, mental, and financial health.

This job formulates long-range goals for the organization, develop policy and position papers and negotiate with the chief administrative officer and/or elected officials.

Essential Functions
- Provides legal advice to Human Resources and other departments regarding employment law matters.
- Provides legal advice to the police department, including training, discussing possible cases to be filed, analysis of special civil service issues, and assistance drafting and amending Police Department policies and procedures.
- Represents the City in civil service appeals of Police Department discipline.
- Represents the City in appeals to the Grievance Committee by non-civil service employees.
- Represents the City in meet & confer negotiations with the Pearland Police Officers' Association.
- Reviews Public Information Requests.
- Evaluates Public Information Requests and sends letters to AG as needed to seek opinions on whether information is to be withheld or released.
- Represents the City in Nuisance Abatement cases.
- Drafts and amends City ordinances in coordination with relevant interested departments.
- Covers municipal court dockets, as needed.
- Provides assistance to the Policy Review Committee, which is tasked with creating, amending, and implementing policies to be applied City-wide or across multiple departments; provides assistance to other City departments as needed.
- Provide training to City staff on various legal issues.
- Research legal questions as needed; completes other tasks as assigned.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited Law School.
- One to two years' experience as a government attorney preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Must qualify for CJIS and/or TLETS access
