Day to Day

As a Graphic Designer, you will be a part of a marketing and creative services team collaborating with fellow talented graphic designers, web developers, marketing strategists, and a variety of project managers, producing materials for both print and digital applications.

The types of projects you may be involved in require a mix of both creative and technical skills, working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of marketers, planners, landscape architects, and engineers. You will also support a variety of internal and external clients in creating a large range of deliverables such as outreach campaign materials (digital and print), map design, motion graphics, UX/UI design, report layout, branding, logo development, and wayfinding signage.

Qualifications

Required Experience
There are 2 levels available for this role and the experience requirements are as follows:
  • 2-5 years of experience for Graphic Designer I
  • 3-6+ years of experience for Graphic Designer II, with preferred experience specific skillsets.
  • Education: Experience in lieu of education.
    • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or associate's degree in graphic design or a related field of study
Creative Responsibilities
Required:
  • Responsible for supporting project, proposal, and marketing efforts and activities by contributing to deliverables that have a high visual impact and are relevant to the target audience
  • Design and layout of long documents such as reports and master plans using best practices in document setup, establishing styles, setting hierarchy, and linked assets
  • Assist with design briefs by gathering information and data through research
  • Optimize photography for print and web projects
  • Manage and coordinate production of materials with outside vendors
  • Ensure accuracy in all graphic-based documents including proofreading and adhering to accessibility standards.
Responsibilities based on preferred skillsets:
  • Create visually compelling motion graphics and videos from concept through to execution
  • Create wireframes, design mockups, and interactive prototypes for the web, and collaborate closely with our web development team during handoff.
Communication Skills
  • Ability to collaborate with staff members across the company and manage internal team expectations.
  • Present design concepts to stakeholders and incorporate feedback efficiently
Schedule and Workflow Management
  • Use project management tools and team calendars to maintain project timelines and details.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and tasks on multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Experience with project progress tools such as Wrike, Trello, Monday.com or Asana
Software Skills:
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
PreferredThere are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Experience with Figma
  • Experience with SketchUp
  • Experience with creating ADA accessible documents (Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word)
  • Bonus: Member of professional practice organization (e.g. AIGA, SEGD, WTS)

Compensation
The pay range for this job in Portland is $53,000-$71,000 annually. Placement within the range and title (i.e. Graphic Designer I-II) is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
