Forester II - Unit Forester

Shape Forestry Policy and Resource Management Across the Butte Unit.

CAL FIRE is seeking an experienced forestry professional to serve as Unit Forester for the Butte Unit. In this Forester II supervisory role, you’ll lead complex resource management and forest practice programs, supervise professional forestry staff, administer wildfire prevention grants, and advise Unit leadership on forestry policy, regulatory compliance, forest health, and community wildfire resilience. You’ll apply advanced technical knowledge while building partnerships with Tribal governments, Fire Safe Councils, landowners, public agencies, and other community stakeholders. This is an opportunity to bring your forestry expertise into a leadership role with broad influence across the Unit.

The ideal candidate brings broad knowledge of forest and watershed management, forest practices, vegetation and fuels management, environmental regulations, fire prevention, and California’s diverse natural resources. They can interpret technical standards, make sound decisions using available data, communicate complex information clearly, and lead programs with limited oversight. Just as importantly, they are an effective supervisor who can organize work, develop employees, foster collaboration, and maintain an inclusive, respectful, and safe workplace.
