Job Description And Duties

We are seeking a dynamic and a driven leader in Riverside or Sacramento.

The California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Office of Community Air Protection (OCAP) is seeking a highly capable and forward-looking Staff Air Pollution Specialist to join the Program Assessment and Reporting Section and help guide California’s community focused air quality work. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply advanced technical expertise and provide leadership in a program that plays a central role in supporting environmental equity across the state.

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, scientific insight, and strategic thinking to assist Section-level planning and decision making. This includes contributing to the development of Section and assisting achieve its strategic goals, supporting alignment across internal teams, and helping shape approaches that strengthen Program's effectiveness statewide.

Technical leadership is a key component of this role. The incumbent will draw on a deep understanding of air quality science and community level exposure assessment to support the development and refinement of analytical approaches used across the program. This includes interpreting diverse technical information, synthesizing complex findings, and helping ensure that analyses are clearly communicated to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The position also involves providing leadership in collaborative efforts with community partners, local agencies, and internal CARB divisions. By fostering strong communication, supporting problem solving, and identifying emerging needs, the Staff Air Pollution Specialist will help strengthen program consistency and responsiveness. Lessons learned through these interactions will inform improved practices and contribute to OCAP’s continued evolution.

The role also supports the advancement of modern digital communication tools that enhance accessibility of program information. The incumbent will utilize analytical and visualization platforms, such as ArcGIS and Microsoft Power BI, contributing to clearer communication of complex concepts and improved transparency across OCAP’s work.
