Jr. Network Administrator
We are looking for Jr. Network Administrator who will assist with the design, configuration, maintenance, and support of the Association’s network infrastructure and related systems. Under the guidance of the Network Engineer, the Jr. Network Administrator will focus on ensuring stable operation of the corporate and operational technology networks, including SCADA/ADMS, AMI, VOIP, Radio, and other critical systems. The Jr. Network Administrator will also be responsible for the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the design and maintenance of the corporate and operational technology networks including but not limited to LAN, WAN, data, voice, and video network infrastructure. Administer internet connections for all MVEA locations.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, optimize, troubleshoot, and back up LAN and WAN infrastructure devices including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
- Monitor the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks daily to ensure devices are communicating and network is operational. Identify issues and takes ownership of remediation steps.
- Assist with network improvements, security updates, hardware and configuration upgrades and repairs.
- Participate in the evaluation and purchase of security and network related products with senior leadership.
- Manage and monitor network performance and asset inventory, conducts analysis utilizing network management tools and following industry best practices. Administer guest Wi-Fi and NAC systems. Escalate problems to vendors as needed.
- Assist with the installation, setup, configuration and maintenance of battery backups systems in the MDF, IDFs, and Disaster Recovery locations. Notify management if there are issues with generators or cooling systems for these locations. Responsible for overall cleanliness and usability of each network room. Supervise vendors and contractors as needed.
- Assist with the support and troubleshooting of private fiber network infrastructure.
- Diagram, document, and maintain detailed records of device locations, configurations, and IP addresses.
- Assist with the installation, termination, and testing of copper and fiber optic cabling or supervise contractors during the installation of copper and fiber cables as needed.
- Assist with the design, setup, and support of Audio and Visual solutions for the Association.
- Assist with the planning, management, configuration, monitoring, testing and maintenance of the AMI and ADMS / SCADA systems, and support utility system applications.
- Manage and maintain AMI communication nodes, such as gateways and relays. Responsible for upgrades, replacements or relocation of these devices to ensure optimal meter data collecting.
- Administer and support the Association’s Radio System. Partner with support vendor when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. Certification or training in network administration is preferred.
- Two or more years of network administration / engineer experience. Relevant industry certifications from Cisco, CompTIA or others relevant certifications preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience and extensive knowledge to effectively use current Microsoft Office products.
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, well organized, personable, and able to exercise discretion, and use sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information.
- Works independently to plan, schedule, meet deadlines and implement programs and policies within a team environment.
- Communicate and interact effectively with members and co-workers in a courteous, professional manner.
- Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience.
- Working knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, xDSL, TCP/IP, fiber, T1, 802.11x, etc.
- Strong knowledge of network management and analysis tools such as WireShark, Nmap, tcpdump, etc.
- Normal work hours Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Available to work irregular hours for meetings, training, emergencies, and overnight travel.
- Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Maintain an after-hours telephone number.
