About the Job

Cadence Inc. seeks an experienced Quality Supervisor to support our Cranston, Rhode Island Quality team!This is a salaried, exempt position and is on the first shift.

Position Purpose

This position oversees the quality inspection team to ensure all products meet Cadence’s regulatory requirements. Oversees and monitors the in-process inspection, incoming receiving, lot release, NC/CAPA support, and testing of materials, parts, and products to ensure adherence to established quality standards. Establishes inspection protocols, defines sampling procedures, and determines equipment and mechanisms to be used in the testing process. Recommend changes in materials, parts, and product specifications based on inspection results. May formulate and revise quality control policies and procedures. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our products, ensuring patient safety, and driving continuous improvement in the quality inspection process.

Essential Duties & Requirements

Overseeing Quality Control Processes and Inspection Activities

  • Establish and enforce quality standards, processes, and procedures across production and testing stages.
  • Monitor the day-to-day quality control activities to ensure product consistency and adherence to specifications.

Team Supervision and Training Development

  • Manage a team of quality inspection employees, overseeing their work and providing guidance.
  • Train team members on quality standards, testing methods, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate team development and training opportunities.
  • Holds regular team meetings to communicate quality objectives and drive performance improvement.

Inspecting and Testing Products

  • Supervises product inspections and quality tests to identify defects or deviations.
  • Use tools and technology to measure and verify product quality, ensuring specifications are met.

Implementing Quality Improvement Plans

  • Identify areas for improvement in production processes to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other departments to implement process improvements that align with quality goals.

Developing and Updating QC Documentation

  • In conjunction with Quality Manager, suggest, update, and maintain documentation related to quality standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and available for team members.

Ensuring Compliance with Regulations and Standards

  • Stay updated on relevant industry standards, laws, and regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Regularly review and adjust quality processes to adhere to regulatory requirements.

Analyzing Data and Reporting

  • Analyze quality data, inspection results, and other metrics to identify trends and root causes of quality issues.
  • Compile reports on quality performance, nonconformance, and corrective actions, presenting findings to upper management.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify areas for improvement in the inspection process and collaborate with the quality engineering, operations, and manufacturing engineering teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in root cause analyses for quality issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Ensuring Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols in the QC area to protect employees and maintain compliance with safety regulations.
  • Report safety hazards and work with safety personnel to resolve issues.

Inventory and Equipment Management

  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of quality control equipment and testing tools.
  • Ensure the QC area has the necessary supplies and tools to perform inspections and tests effectively.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality engineering, and manufacturing engineering, to ensure alignment on quality standards.
  • Serve as the point of contact for external audits or customer visits related to inspection activities.

Supervisory Skills/Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in quality inspection within a regulated industry, preferably in medical device manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory and/or leadership role, managing a team of individuals.
  • Education: Technical degree in a related preferred or equivalent experience.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in using Quality Management Software platforms for managing and tracking quality processes, audits, corrective actions, and compliance.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis tools, such as Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or Power BI, for analyzing quality-related data, generating reports, and identifying trends and patterns.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools for conducting advanced statistical analyses, especially in industries where statistical methods are crucial for quality control.
  • Understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for integrating quality processes with broader business operations, including inventory and supply chain management.
  • Knowledge of database management systems for storing and managing quality-related data and generating custom reports.
  • Familiarity with document management systems for organizing and managing quality-related documents, procedures, and records.
  • Effective use of email platforms for communication with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of risk management software tools for assessing, monitoring, and mitigating product quality and compliance risks.
  • Proficiency in project management tools for planning and tracking quality-related projects and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of process mapping tools for creating visual representations of quality processes and workflows.
  • Understanding CRM software platforms for managing customer interactions, feedback, and quality-related data.
  • Familiarity with audit management software for planning, executing, and tracking internal and external audits.
  • Knowledge of LMS platforms for creating, delivering, and tracking training programs related to quality standards and processes.
  • Ability to adapt to new software tools and technologies, staying updated on the latest advancements in quality management software and computer applications relevant to the field.
  • Proficiency in using email and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Gmail) to coordinate with team members, quality engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Skills in using image capture tools and analysis software for visual inspections, especially in industries where visual documentation is crucial.

Certifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT) preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.

Physical Demands

Should be able to function in both office and manufacturing environments. Time may include time between an office environment and the production floor. Must tolerate sitting and working with a computer for extended periods. Fine motor skills are utilized when typing and using various office machines. Clear verbal communication, hearing ability, and clear vision or reasonable alternative are required. The ability to move throughout our facility safely and effectively and interact with employees.
