Off Road Haul Truck

About The Role

The Off-road haul truck operator plays a critical role in the efficient and safe transportation of materials within off-road mining or construction sites. This position requires the operator to skillfully maneuver large haul trucks over rugged terrain, ensuring the timely delivery of materials to designated locations. The role demands strict adherence to safety protocols to protect both the operator and site personnel while minimizing environmental impact. Operators will collaborate closely with site supervisors and maintenance teams to optimize haul routes and maintain equipment reliability. Ultimately, this position contributes directly to the operational success and productivity of the site by ensuring materials are moved efficiently and safely.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or equivalent certification for operating heavy off-road vehicles.
  • Demonstrated experience operating large haul trucks or similar heavy equipment in off-road environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform routine equipment inspections and identify potential mechanical issues.
  • Physical capability to handle the demands of operating heavy machinery in outdoor and variable weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in mining, quarry, or large-scale construction environments.
  • Certification in heavy equipment safety training or related professional development courses.
  • Familiarity with GPS or other electronic tracking systems used for haul route optimization.
  • Basic mechanical skills to assist with minor equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Operate off-road haul trucks to transport materials such as soil, rock, or minerals across the site according to daily production plans.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections of haul trucks to ensure mechanical safety and report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and site-specific protocols to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with site supervisors and other operators to coordinate haul schedules and respond to changing site conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records of haul activities, including load counts, distances traveled, and any incidents or delays encountered.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in outdoor environments, exposed to elements such as dust, mud, heat, cold, and noise.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting and the operation of heavy equipment.
  • May involve work on weekends, holidays, or rotating shifts depending on site operations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb in and out of large haul trucks repeatedly.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for safe operation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

The required skills enable the operator to safely and efficiently control large haul trucks, ensuring materials are transported without incident. Knowledge of safety regulations is applied daily to minimize risks and maintain compliance with site standards.
