Summary

Bering Dynamic Solutions, LLC, a company within the BSNC family, is currently seeking a qualified Windows Administration/Helpdesk Support for a contract in Silver Spring, MD.

This contract works for an agency that operates approximately 285 desktop/laptops, a mix of 90 physical and virtual Linux servers (i.e., development, testing, and production environments), 25 physical and virtual Windows servers, storage devices, and a mix of network devices. The agency operates a Linux server farm located in the cloud in AWS and hosts more than 60 scientific, oceanographic, and geospatial applications, which provide real-time scientific, oceanographic, and geospatial information to warn of pending storms and storm surge and support marine navigation. In addition, a real-time Continuity of Operations (COOP) infrastructure is located in the cloud via AWS, with the capacity for providing rolling three days of real-time data without a database structure, and the potential of becoming a hot or warm site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will operate desktop/laptops/field laptops, a mix of (i.e., development, testing, and production environments), 25 physical and virtual Windows servers, storage devices, and a mix of network devices.

  • Build, deploy, backup, restore and/or maintain infrastructure components including but not limited to Windows laptops/desktops/servers, printers, etc. as changes to infrastructure take place.
  • Provide end user support responding to user requests and providing multi-tiered support as needed.
  • Assist CO-OPS personnel in any Information Technology (IT) related area that adversely affects system performance and integrity.
  • Offer support via phone, email, and on-site and document findings via ticketing software.
  • Grant and monitor computer access for various system users on a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). Resolve user issues and problems, keep the management informed of system utilization patterns or other issues.
  • Enter phone and walk-up request into the tracking system.
  • Handle problems concerning software, mobile devices, PCs, printers, network cabling, network devices, and any new technology that is introduced within CO-OPS.
  • Refer the request to the task monitor if the request requires a procurement action to be taken or the alteration of Government policy.
  • Install and test software on the users’ PC.
  • Ensure all software packages are routinely inspected and updated to meet FISMA requirements.
  • Track within the ticketing system and provide the Government e-mail notification of the movement of all inventoried property.
  • Follow government policy and procedures to send/receive, inspect, test, and deploy any technology in support of the government requirements.
  • Follow government policy and procedures to remove the equipment from its deployed area, “wipe” data storage devices, and prepare the equipment for surplus and shipping. Custodians shall be notified by the contractor when both actions take place.
  • Assist the government with technology refresh.
  • Work with the NOAA UMS to provision smartphone accounts upon the receipt of the device, to test new and existing smartphones; and refresh the smartphone technology for users as needed or requested.
  • Provides asset management support to property custodians and/or serves as a property contact.
  • Maintain server for proper operation and optimum performance as well as security compliance.
  • Conduct outage and failure analysis and implement Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) Report to correct or eliminate root‐cause problems.
  • Schedule data backup operations including cloud archiving capabilities. This includes end user share drives.
  • Analyze system log and server performance and usage reports for trends, operational anomalies, and solutions to systemic problems.
  • Maximize effectiveness of security controls by enforcing identification, authentication, access controls, integrity, and consistency processes to verify protection of critical assets.
  • Provide technical services to CO-OPS to maintain field laptops/workstations running customized scientific and engineering COTS applications necessary for water gauge calibration and installation. CO-OPS field personnel are located in the Chesapeake, VA, Seattle, WA and Pensacola, FL locations.

  • Activate, deploy, troubleshoot/diagnose, and maintain smartphones/iPads. Work with the Task Manager, wireless service account holders, property custodians, and wireless provider when necessary to order or replace smartphones/iPads.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

  • Must minimum have a of 2 years of demonstrated IT help desk experience
  • Experience building, deploying, backup, restoring and/or maintaining infrastructure components including but not limited to Windows laptops/desktops/servers, printers, etc. as changes to infrastructure take place.
  • Demonstrated experience providing end user support responding to user requests and providing multi-tiered support as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Other Characteristics

  • MS Office suite experience
  • Excelled oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with senior level management both at the customer and corporate levels.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
