Controller — Architecture Firm (AEC / Project Accounting)

Davis, CA || On-site only || Full-time

Lead accounting and finance operations for a mission-driven architecture and design firm with deep roots in the Sacramento and Bay Area communities.

This role is ideal for an experienced Controller, Senior Accountant, or Accounting Manager with AEC industry experience who thrives on both strategic financial leadership and hands-on accounting work.

• Oversee all aspects of project-based accounting in a creative, collaborative studio.
• Partner directly with leadership to guide financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Ensure accurate job cost tracking and compliance for design and construction contracts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage daily accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations).
• Oversee month-end and year-end close; prepare financial statements and management reports.
• Lead budget development, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Maintain compliance with contracts, GAAP, and internal controls.
• Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years in a senior accounting leadership role (Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar).
• Architecture, Engineering, or Construction (AEC) industry experience required.
• Proficiency with Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint preferred; experience with other enterprise resource planning (ERP) or accounting software is a plus.
• Strong skills in Excel, project accounting, and financial reporting.

On-site role in Davis, CA — no remote or hybrid.
