About The Job
The Co-op position is located in the Data and Computational Science (DCS) department within the Sanofi mRNA Center of Excellence (mRNA CoE), supporting the CMC data science group. This role focuses on developing chemometric models using process analytical technologies (PAT) such as Raman and FTIR and integrating these with first principle and machine learning (ML) models for various units, including In Vitro Transcription (IVT) and T-mixing in drug substance and product process development. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn about mRNA technology and unit operations, and to demonstrate the benefits of PAT technologies alongside first principle and ML modeling in a non-GMP lab environment.

Main Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will collaborate with their supervisor to develop chemometric models and integrate them with first principle and machine learning (ML) models for various unit operations.
- Activities will include investigating data reconciliation and state estimation techniques such as extended Kalman filtering and moving horizon methods.
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in chemical or biochemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, or other STEM related field at an accredited college or university
- Must be able to relocate to the office location and work 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday, for the full duration of the co-op/internship
- Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship
- Basic understanding of mRNA technology.
- Experience in chemometrics, ML, first principle, and hybrid dynamic modeling and state estimation technique (such as EKF and MHE)
- Familiarity with mathematical software and packages (SIMCA, Python-sklearn, Julia, MATLAB, PYOMO, gPROMS).
