Description: Planning & Development InternSchedule: This position offers a flexible schedule of approximately 10–15 hours per week. Hours will be coordinated to accommodate the individual's school schedule.

Pay: The starting rate of pay for this position will depend on experience and will range from $17.79 to $26.04 per hour.

Introduction

The Planning & Development Intern will assist with the construction inspection, data collection, asset and records management, planning, and civil engineering associated with the airport’s infrastructure and capital improvement projects.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct construction inspections and advise staff of current project status and situations.
  • Develop, manage, review, and organize construction project documentation.
  • Assist with project communication and coordination with and between the Lincoln Airport Authority, its consultants, and contractors.
  • Attend project meetings with other Airport Authority staff when available.
  • Assist with creating and updating data within the airport’s geographic information system (GIS).
  • Assist with analysis of infrastructure asset data, budgeting, and project planning.
  • Organize historical project plan sets and documentation, and manage digital scanning for records retention.
  • Collect data on assets/infrastructure throughout the airport property, including photographs, condition, dimensions, and other features.
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of infrastructure asset management systems (i.e., Pavement Management Program, roof condition index, storm water facilities).
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard office suite software, especially the use of word processors and spreadsheet programs.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting (CAD) or geographic information system (GIS) software.
  • Skilled at completing documentation and calculations with detail and accuracy.
  • Skilled at problem solving and critical thinking, including the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and contract documents.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction sites and areas with active vehicle traffic.
  • Ability to use tools such as a tape measure, measuring wheel, and level to take measurements and complete quantity calculations.
  • Must speak with clarity, and read and write English fluently.

Education & Experience

  • The intern must be currently enrolled in college and have completed at least two years of study in civil engineering, construction management, computer-aided drafting, GIS technology, land surveying, or a related field at the time of the internship.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50lbs, utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Safely climb in and out of trucks, and up and down stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endure various work environment factors, including climatic temperature extremes such as cold, hot, wet, and/or humid conditions, and moving mechanical parts/equipment.

Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Lincoln Airport Authority.

Safety Requirements

Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.

Work Environment

The work environment will typically be construction sites in outside weather conditions where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. The employee will also work in an office environment having computers, printers, telecommunication tools, desks, file cabinets & storage areas. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet.

Condition of Employment

The employee is required to meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc., listed in this document. The employee must be at least 18 years of age. Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, drug screening, criminal history check, and DMV check. The Lincoln Airport Authority will cover any associated costs for the screenings.
