Primary Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic II will diagnose, disassemble, and support the rebuilding and aligning of precision machine tools and equipment. Lubricates machinery, changes parts, or perform other routine to complex machinery repairs and maintenance. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation for disabilities may be made for one or more of the following:

  • Utilizes work orders to indicate necessary maintenance repair.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on physical structures, including machines, associated equipment, and/or oil separators and mop water containers in order to comply with company safety policies and procedures and manufacturer suggested services procedures.
  • Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
  • Supports more senior level mechanics with the rebuilding of precision machine tools and equipment. Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics determines methods to use in tear down, rework, alignment or renewal, assembly and functional test of machine tools.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics determines and performs precision measurements to achieve alignment required between all functional planes.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics determines re-machining or rebuilding required for worn parts. Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics modifies existing machinery and equipment to facilitate new production techniques under the direction of the engineering department. Installs and rigs machinery, breaks down, levels and checks out according to manufacturers specifications.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Locates, installs, maintains, test and repairs electronic equipment and circuits by working from procedures, specifications, blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, verbal and written instructions and following established electronic practices.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Assist team members, when necessary, on breakdowns and when servicing equipment.
  • Removes recyclable waste metals from machine areas and depositing them in the hazardous waste recycling haul off yard containers.
  • Clears all spills (water, oil, and other liquids) and disposing in appropriate locations in order to comply with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Surveys, clears and cleans the water burn-off system following set procedures.
  • Delivers oil to various operations departments as needed.
  • Picks up emptied oil drums and relocates to appropriate locations for recycling or re-use.
  • Use fork-lift to move equipment, oil drums, mop water and waste metals containers.
  • Uses hand tools, power hand tools and voltage meters.
  • With support and some guidance from more senior level mechanics performs functional tests of machines and equipment such as engine lathes, mill machines, single & multi spindle automatic screw machines, heading, press, thread roll equipment and precision grinders to determine nature and cause of malfunction.
  • Assists more senior level mechanics with ensuring that rebuilt machines will satisfactorily comply with functional requirements.
  • Welding within the company safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Assists in all areas of new construction and remodeling of new facilities.
  • Utilize maintenance shop lathes and mills.
  • Attends all required job related training (internal and external).
  • Follow all department and company measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Technical Skills –
    • Mechanical – bearings, mechanical power transmission, chain drives, belt drives, gear drives, couplings, mechanical fasteners, packing and seals, pumps, conveyors, pipe fittings and valves, steam lines and traps. Ability to perform a variety of machine shop equipment, including hand and power tools.
    • Hydraulic/Pneumatic – principles of hydraulic and pneumatic power, hydraulic fluids, piping and sealing, reservoirs, actuators, directional controls, servo valves, pressure controls, volume controls, pumps, motors, air compressors, etc.
    • Electrical– understands and uses intermediate knowledge of electronic controls, voltage, resistance and amperage measurements, testing and evaluation, and lock out/tag out procedures.
    • Welding- all types of welding.
    • Forklift operation- safety and handling.
    • Oil and Filtration. Types and safety.
    • Metal scraping and waste disposal. Types and safety.
    • Design and fabrication- ability to improvise new solutions to special cases.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This position has no supervisory responsibility.

    May assist in the coaching and process teaching of trainees or less experience personnel under the supervision of management.

    Education And/or Experience

    • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance or general construction trades required or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum of 2 years of related manufacturing experience or general construction trades and/or training; intermediate hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with PLC.
    • Ability to read, interpret manufacturers drawings, blueprints and written instructions.
    • Familiarity with Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have ability top learn Work Order program and Word Processing software.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to speak and present information in one-on-one situations to other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    • Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR
    • Fork-lift certified
