About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Research Associate to join our growing organization. As a member of the quality and analytical chemistry team, you will report to the Quality Engineer and support development, validation, and operation of analytical methods for measuring key quality metrics of Lygos products and the raw materials used in their manufacturing. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and cross-functional team of technical and commercial personnel to ensure the quality of new sustainable bioproducts as they are being commercialized. You will work closely with the greater team to ensure that the methods and sample analyses meet requirements.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate new analytical methods for solid and liquid polymer products, small molecules, and in-process R&D samples.
- Analyze and interpret analytical data/chromatograms, identify trends, and provide data-driven feedback and recommendations.
- Operate analytical instruments such as HPLC, UPLC, GPC/SEC, LC/MS, GC, Ion Chromatography, and Karl Fischer titration with appropriate standards, controls, and documentation to ensure reliable and traceable quality control.
- Write detailed and thorough Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for methods and protocols.
- Perform polymer characterization testing, including viscosity, color, and other relevant properties.
- Coordinate and prioritize analysis schedules in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure timely data delivery.
- Work cross-functionally with process engineering, R&D, and other departments to support product and process development.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and participate in problem-solving and root cause analysis initiatives.
- B.S. in Chemistry or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience operating HPLC and other analytical instruments.
- Proven experience validating analytical methods using rigorous and reproducible methodologies.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Critical thinker who can adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with polymer characterization and GPC/SEC.
- Familiarity with document control and management of SOPs, work instructions, and related documentation.
- Background in developing analytical methods for novel industrial bioproducts.
