Director of Student Ministry
Job Overview:
The Director of Student Ministry is responsible for tailoring the church's vision to meet the unique needs and challenges of 6 – 12th grade students and their families.
Responsibilities:
General
- Attend scheduled weekly staff meetings. Meet regularly with the Executive Pastor.
- Love students where they are and develop connections and relationship with students for the purpose of pointing them to a deeper relationship with God.
- Lead or facilitate leadership of regular (weekly) gathering opportunities focused on learning and application of Biblical truths.
- Provide additional periodic opportunities for learning, worship, building relationships, discipleship, and mission/outreach.
- Challenge students to respond to God in service locally and abroad.
- Identify and train student leaders.
- Develop connections and relationships with adult volunteers to recruit, train, evaluate, and empower those volunteers to serve in the student ministry.
- Facilitate worship and service opportunities for students to engage in the larger church context.
- Maintain personal connection to the larger congregational context in worship and mission and seek opportunities to connect and work with ministry staff from other ministries.
- Provide meaningful resources to students and families outside the regular gatherings.
- Enhance Job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for Christian and professional development and training of oneself.
- Other duties as assigned.
Administrative Management
- Develop or choose curriculum that facilitates consistent Biblically based growth in their own faith habits and affections, development of meaningful relationships, and serving God through reaching out to serve others.
- Communicate and track requirements for Confirmation.
- Oversee and meet with the Student Ministry Team to provide vision, guidance, and support.
Status:
Full time exempt employee, reports to Executive Pastor
Position requires flexibility in hours available for work including evenings and weekends based on a minimum of 30+ hours/week.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or certification in student-related field is preferred.

- Be a committed Christian, striving in word and action to be an example in Christian living, mindful of being a representative of Morningside Lutheran Church at all times.
- Embrace Christian Discipline and doctrine and theology of Morningside Lutheran Church.
- Have a passion for ministry, a thriving prayer life, and personally involved in a small group.
- Be able to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement programming.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication, conflict management, and computer skills.
- Be able to work effectively with students and parents, diverse individuals, and teams.
- Be effective in time management and organization to fulfill expectations.
