Reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing Academics, Program Director, or Chair, the Full-Time Nursing Faculty supports the University’s mission by facilitating student learning aligned with course and program outcomes. The role provides leadership as an educator, mentor, and role model, fostering an innovative and accountable academic environment. Faculty contribute program-specific expertise, participate in departmental initiatives, assess student learning to ensure outcome achievement, and uphold academic integrity while supporting institutional and accreditation goals.

Requirements

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches assigned course load and maintains regular office hours.
  • Participates in course and program assessment for continuous improvement.
  • Updates course materials and syllabi in alignment with shared governance.
  • Uses diverse teaching methods to support student achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and student engagement.
  • Provides timely feedback and academic advising per University protocols.
  • Maintains teaching effectiveness through student, peer, and administrative evaluations, and student outcomes.
  • Actively mentors students and integrates scholarly and cross-disciplinary approaches to enhance instruction.

Scholarly Activities

  • Maintains membership in a professional organization and engages in annual professional development as agreed with the supervisor.
  • Selects at least one scholarly activity, such as publishing, textbook contribution, presenting at conferences, participating in accreditation or test-writing, or serving on academic committees.
  • Contributes to the discipline through research or professional activities related to teaching or subject expertise, and actively participates in professional organizations through publications, presentations, or related contributions.

Professional Growth And Service

  • Participates in department, college, and university meetings as approved.
  • Demonstrates collegial, professional, and ethical conduct.
  • Builds connections within and beyond the University community. Actively engages in University initiatives and contributes to curriculum assessment and revision to ensure quality.
  • Provides ongoing service through leadership or participation in at least one area: community, profession, or University, including service on at least one University-wide committee.
  • May support program analysis for student success and collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Affiliations to coordinate clinical experiences.

General Scope Of Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, grades, and student work; provides timely feedback and submits required reports in accordance with University policies.
  • Uses approved syllabus templates and ensures timely distribution
  • Supports assessment and compliance efforts, including curriculum improvement and regulatory standards.
  • Engages in student success activities, offering academic support and mentorship.
  • Participates in required meetings, professional development, and Practice Learning Community.
  • Adheres to ethical, legal, and professional standards, maintains confidentiality, and ensures proper use of University resources.
  • Meets all job-related (including clinical site) requirements and competencies, maintains a professional demeanor, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership and colleagues to ensure high quality instruction appropriate for course and program learning objectives
  • Maintains relationships with clinical sites, ensuring they meet quality standards and are aligned with the organization's needs as assigned
  • Collaborates with other Westcliff departments as needed

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse License
  • Must meet the Board of Registered Nursing requirements as stipulated in their statutes:
  • 1425(c) An instructor shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

¦ (1) The education requirements set forth in subsection (a)(1); and

¦ (2) Direct Patient Care Experience Within The Previous Five (5) Years In The Nursing Area To Which He Or She Is Assigned, Which Can Be Met By

  • (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or
  • (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; and

¦ (3) Completion of at least one (1) year's experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.

  • 1425(d) An assistant instructor shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

¦ (1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college which shall include courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral or social sciences relevant to nursing practice;

¦ (2) Direct Patient Care Experience Within The Previous Five (5) Years In The Nursing Area To Which He Or She Will Be Assigned, Which Can Be Met By

  • (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or
  • (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.
  • 1425(f) A content expert shall be an instructor and shall possess the following minimum qualifications:

¦ (1) A master's degree in the designated nursing area; or

¦ (2) A master's degree that is not in the designated nursing area and shall:

  • (A) Have completed thirty (30) hours of continuing education or two (2) semester units or three (3) quarter units of nursing education related to the designated nursing area; or have national certification in the designated nursing area from an accrediting organization, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC); and
  • (B) Have a minimum of two hundred forty (240) hours of clinical experience within the previous three (3) years in the designated nursing area; or have a minimum of one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area within the previous five (5) years.
  • Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by the state Board of Nursing for nursing faculty if required for assigned subject matter instruction.

Preferred Qualficiations

  • Experience in teaching nursing skills lab including simulated learning environments
  • Previous teaching experience including curriculum development, assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to navigate electronic learning platforms
  • Proficient in Google and Microsoft Suites
  • Post master’s certificate in nursing education, doctoral degree in nursing practice (DNP), and/or PhD in Nursing

Working Conditions

  • The primary responsibilities are carried out in a on-campus presence.
  • Occasional physical activity including lifting (up to 70 lbs), and bending
  • Occasional exposure to noisy environments and varied weather conditions.

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends if necessitated by clinical rotatio
