Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Military Programs | Davie, Florida | On-site
Build something, not maintain something. Lex Products' Davie, Florida site is our dedicated military and defense manufacturing operation, building power distribution units and cable assemblies for defense customers. We are growing the military business fast, rebuilding our certifications, and bringing on new programs, on our way to becoming an all-military site. This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity to shape how a defense site runs.
Why join us now:
- Real ownership: you report directly to the VP of Defense Operations & General Manager, with visibility to the CEO.
- Growth you can see: new military programs and customer wins are already coming in.
- Florida has no state income tax.
- A diverse, bilingual (English/Spanish) workforce and a leadership team focused on accountability, respect, and developing people.
The role
Our military business is growing fast, and Davie is becoming an all-military site. We have more new programs coming into production than one engineer can carry. We need a senior manufacturing engineer who owns how those programs get built: right the first time, on schedule, and ready to scale. You'll turn customer technical data packages into accurate routings, clear work instructions, and a floor that builds with confidence. Product design is handled by our Connecticut engineering team; this role owns manufacturing.
Reports to and scope
- Reports directly to the VP of Defense Operations & General Manager, on-site in Davie, FL.
- Owns an assigned portfolio of new military programs, from technical data package review through production release and stable rate production.
- Works alongside a second Senior Manufacturing Engineer who also leads new programs. Programs are assigned by customer or program, so ownership is always clear.
What success looks like
First 90 days
- Review every assigned program and publish a production-readiness gap list.
- Own complete, accurate routings and work instructions for assigned program(s) before first build.
- Clean up BOM and routing records in M2M for assigned programs.
First 6 months
- First article pass rate of 99% on new programs.
- New-program release to production in 4 weeks or less.
- BOM and routing accuracy in M2M at 98% for assigned programs.
First year
- Reduce assembly hours per unit by 20% on Assigned program(s).
- A shared, repeatable new-program introduction process, built with the other Senior ME, that any engineer can follow.
- Zero customer findings caused by incorrect routings or work instructions.
What you'll do
- Review customer drawings, BOMs, and technical data packages for build-to-print gaps before production.
- Build routings, work instructions, and process flows for new programs.
- Design or specify fixtures, tooling, and test methods.
- Lead first article builds with Quality and resolve issues quickly.
- Manage engineering changes, deviations, and waivers, and keep drawings, BOMs, and M2M records aligned.
- Lead root cause and corrective action on manufacturing issues.
- Apply lean methods to improve flow, line balance, cycle time, and yield.
- Train operators and leads on new processes and standards.
- Work closely with Connecticut design engineering, Quality, Planning, and Procurement.
What you bring
Required
- 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in electronics, cable/harness, electrical assembly, or similar.
- Experience with build-to-print defense or aerospace programs, from technical data package through production release.
- Hands-on experience building routings and work instructions in an ERP system.
- Working knowledge of IPC J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620.
- Experience with AS9100, first article inspection (AS9102), and process FMEA.
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, industrial, electrical, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined under ITAR.
Preferred
- Power distribution or electrical assembly experience.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with Made2Manage (M2M) or similar ERP.
- CAD proficiency for fixtures and work instruction graphics.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
Who thrives here
You want to own a program from drawing to delivery. You're on the floor, not behind a screen. You catch problems in the technical data package before they reach the line. You measure your success by what the team builds, and you credit the people who help you build it.
