Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $112,900.00 – $188,100.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 10% or $, based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details

We’re forming a new team which supports the publishing process that brings product data to

Grainger.com. As a Senior Software Engineer (Software Engineer III) on this team you will be

involved in the full systems life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing,

implementing and supporting application software and systems that are delivered on time and

within budget.You will work closely with other technical teams, business stakeholders, and

product managers to understand the business requirements that drive the design of high quality

technical solutions. The publishing process impacts products and systems across multiple

domains, so you will work on internal tools and customer-facing systems.

Chicago, IL is the preferred location with a hybrid work environment (2 days per week in the

Merchandise Mart office). We will also consider highly qualified remote candidates who are

willing to travel to Chicago for onboarding and occasional team meetings. Onsite onboarding will

be required.

You Will

• Build applications and develop product solutions in partnership with engineers, architects,
  
  

product designers, and product managers, leading to scalable, maintainable, and user-

friendly software solutions.

• Utilize Full Stack development skills (primarily React and Java) based on specific platform
  
  

or domain needs.

• Implement continuous delivery improvements and drive engineering best practices, with a
  
  

focus on quality gates and deployment confidence.

• Provide production system support, including participating in an evening on-call rotation
  
  

and collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to debug issues and uncover root

causes.

• Support team activities and pair with peers to work on stories
• Consistently practice sensible defaults.
  
  

You Have

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
• 3+ years experience with modern software engineering; designing, building, and deploying
  
  

scalable software applications required

• Full stack software development experience in modern technologies such as React, Java,
  
  

Typescript

• Working knowledge of backend integration patterns including REST APIs, event-driven
  
  

systems, and asynchronous workflows

• Understanding of distributed system design
• Familiarity with using AI agents to understand existing systems, write code, improve
  
  

workflows.

• Experience analyzing and interpreting complex problems and processes
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices
