Performs entry-level data preparation, validation, analysis, and reporting using established methods. Creates reports, dashboards, and visualizations; identifies trends and data-quality issues; and works with stakeholders to understand data and reporting needs. Assists with agency data governance process. Develops proficiency in agency data systems and analytical tools, including SQL, Microsoft Power BI, and Python. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Hybrid in-office / work-from-home role but not restricted to Austin Metropolitan area (agency has locations throughout the state). May be required to work more than 40 hours per workweek and travel occasionally.Essential Job DutiesCollects, queries, cleans, validates, and prepares data for analysis and reporting using established methods and procedures.Performs descriptive and basic diagnostic analysis and interprets results to identify trends, differences, and data-quality concerns.Creates and maintains recurring reports, dashboards, visualizations, tables, and presentations for program and operational staff.Performs established data-quality assurance checks and dataset preparation procedures; identifies and escalates unusual or complex issues.Works with stakeholders to understand the purpose of data and reporting requests, clarify definitions and intended use, and translate defined needs into analytical requirements with guidance as needed.Documents data sources, definitions, calculations, assumptions, methods, and reporting procedures.Learns data domain and governance knowledge from subject matter experts, senior data office staff, and other agency stakeholders.Learns and applies agency data systems and analytical tools, including SQL, Microsoft Power BI, and Python; candidates with experience in comparable analytical tools are expected to develop proficiency in the agency's toolset.Communicates findings clearly and accurately to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.Will be required to travel up to 10% of the time.Actively embody and support the Texas Model by demonstrating its core values in daily tasks and interactions with others.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree. One (1) year of full-time wage-earning professional experience in data or statistical analysis required.A cover letter is required.Preferred QualificationsMajor coursework or experience in computer science, statistics, public policy, sociology, criminal justice, business analytics, data science, or a related field.Experience working with case management, cus omer relations, human services, government, or juvenile justice data.Experience or coursework using SQL, Microsoft Power BI, Python, or comparable analytical tools.Experience and Education Substitutions:Completed graduate study in a relevant field may be considered in evaluating qualifications.Completion of a relevant data analysis or data science training program may be considered based on the hours and content of study.
