About The Role

As part of our Energy Advisory team, you will support a diverse portfolio of clients and energy management programs throughout the United States and Canada. Working closely with property managers, board members, and building operations teams, you will serve as a trusted advisor on initiatives that reduce energy consumption, lower utility expenses, improve building performance, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

This is a highly visible, client-facing role that combines technical energy expertise with relationship management and strategic consulting. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the east region (NJ, PA, VA, D.C., MA, & MD) and other assigned markets to develop and implement energy solutions that deliver both financial and environmental benefits. As An Advisor You Will

Serves as the primary point of contact for assigned energy clients, combining technical energy market knowledge with proactive account management to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Responsible for building trusted client relationships, understanding customer objectives, and ensuring the accurate and timely execution of energy procurement, reporting, billing, and service-related activities. Acts as an advocate for the customer by coordinating across internal teams, resolving issues, communicating market and regulatory impacts, and driving accountability to meet service commitments. Maintains a strong focus on operational excellence, data accuracy, responsiveness, and continuous improvement to support client retention and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

In this highly visible, client-facing role, you will leverage your technical expertise, consulting skills, and industry knowledge to help clients reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and advance sustainability goals across a diverse portfolio of residential and mixed-use properties.

You Will

  • Serve as the regional subject matter expert for energy management, sustainability, decarbonization, and climate-related initiatives.
  • Analyze utility rate structures and building consumption data, including electricity, natural gas, and water usage, to identify trends, anomalies, and savings opportunities.
  • Conduct on-site building assessments and walk-throughs, recommending energy and water efficiency upgrades, operational improvements, and low-cost/no-cost conservation measures.
  • Develop comprehensive energy reports that include savings estimates, implementation strategies, financial analyses, and return-on-investment (ROI) calculations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to property managers, board members, and building stakeholders, including attending evening and in-person board meetings to explain, recommend, and promote energy management solutions.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities by developing target building lists based on energy spend, usage patterns, and asset characteristics.
  • Design and implement prescriptive energy management programs and high-ROI initiatives that drive measurable reductions in energy consumption, utility costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Represent FirstService Energy at industry conferences, trade associations, networking events, and educational forums.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with vendors, utilities, municipalities, consultants, and nonprofit organizations to support project development and implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to advance client energy strategies, sustainability objectives, regulatory compliance efforts, and operational performance improvements.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical building systems expertise, energy consulting experience, and exceptional client relationship management skills.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Building Science, or a related field.
  • Hold one or more of the following industry-recognized certifications:
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
    • Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP)
    • Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP)
    • LEED Operations & Maintenance (LEED O+M)
    • Building Performance Institute Multifamily (BPI Multifamily)
Experience & Technical Expertise

  • 8+ years of experience in building science, sustainability, energy auditing, energy consulting, commissioning, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of utility rate structures, utility data analysis, and building energy performance analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing energy conservation and carbon reduction strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial and multifamily building systems, including:
    • Boilers
    • Chillers
    • Cooling Towers
    • PTAC Systems
    • Thermal Distribution Systems
    • Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Systems
    • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
    • Heat Pumps
    • Distributed Generation Technologies
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and recommend energy conservation measures with clear operational, financial, and environmental benefits.
  • Experience with providing building energy regulation consulting
    • DC: BEPS, Benchmarking, and verification
    • PA: Philadelphia Retro-Commissiong & Benchmarking
    • MA: BERDO, verification, & BERDO 2.0
Other Requirements

  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the region to conduct field assessments, attend client meetings, and support project implementation.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule from one of our offices with a minimum of three days per week in-office and flexibility to work remotely on remaining days, based on business needs and performance.
  • Availability to attend evening board meetings, client presentations, and special events outside standard business hours.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (2+ hours) during site visits, presentations, and events.
  • Ability to safely access building mechanical spaces, climb ladders, and navigate both interior and exterior property areas as required.

  • Are highly effective at communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences, including board members, property managers, building operators, internal associates, and public stakeholders, both in person and virtually.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out:

  • Experience with energy and project management software platforms such as RETScreen, EnergyCAP, or similar energy analytics tools.
  • Experience selling, developing, or supporting energy management, sustainability, or energy consulting services.
  • Experience supporting projects from opportunity identification through implementation and performance verification.

Compensation range: $100,000 - $140,000, annually. In addition, eligible to participate in FirstService incentive plan with a bonus percentage based on the annual salary.
