Senior Network Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains a scalable, secure network infrastructure across our distribution centers, branches, and cloud environments. This role owns troubleshooting, leads meaningful pieces of network projects (data center connectivity, SD-WAN rollouts, capacity expansions), while partnering closely with the security team on network-security integration.
Key Responsibilities
USD $110,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains a scalable, secure network infrastructure across our distribution centers, branches, and cloud environments. This role owns troubleshooting, leads meaningful pieces of network projects (data center connectivity, SD-WAN rollouts, capacity expansions), while partnering closely with the security team on network-security integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and maintain scalable and secure network infrastructure across Cisco switching/routing, Cisco/Meraki SD-WAN, and Cisco ACI data center fabric.
- Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex network issues, including intermittent connectivity problems, performance bottlenecks, and multi-site routing/switching faults.
- Design and support enterprise wireless architecture across Cisco and Meraki wireless controllers, including RF planning input, policy, and segmentation.
- Own the day-to-day administration and operational health of SolarWinds NPM/NTA, including monitoring coverage, alerting, dashboards, device onboarding, and platform maintenance; use SolarWinds, Wireshark, and related tools for capacity planning and advanced traffic analysis.
- Own configuration standards and version control for network devices, ensuring consistent, secure, and auditable network operations.
- Administer and optimize Infoblox DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) for enterprise-scale environments.
- Partner with the network security to integrate network devices with Cisco ISE, Palo Alto firewalls, and PKI/certificate-based authentication, and to implement segmentation aligned with Zero Trust principles.
- Lead or significantly contribute to network projects such as data center migrations, SD-WAN expansions, and branch network builds, coordinating with IT operations, security, and application teams.
- Direct the relationship with the managed services provider (MSP) for new site builds, escalations, and complex troubleshooting.
- Evaluate emerging network technologies and provide recommendations to management on adoption for future growth.
- Begin introducing automation (Ansible, Python, or similar) to streamline recurring configuration tasks and reduce manual error.
- Support cloud network connectivity for Azure and/or AWS environments (VPN/ExpressRoute/Direct Connect, VNets/VPCs) in partnership with cloud teams.
- Maintain thorough network documentation, diagrams, and runbooks; ensure changes follow change management standards.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, serving as an escalation point above the MSP's first-line support.
- 8-15 years of hands-on experience in enterprise Cisco network infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless, and SD-WAN.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Deep working knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, DMVPN, QoS, and policy-based routing.
- Proven expertise with Cisco SD-WAN, Meraki, Cisco ACI (or comparable data center fabric), and Cisco/Meraki wireless.
- Strong experience with SolarWinds (NPM/NTA) or comparable monitoring platforms, and packet-capture analysis (Wireshark).
- Hands-on experience with F5 BIG-IP/LTM administration and troubleshooting, plus solid working knowledge of Cisco ISE, Infoblox DDI, and Palo Alto firewalls sufficient to partner effectively with security engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams within larger projects, including data center or SD-WAN initiatives.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause-analysis skills for complex, multi-layered network issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable managing vendor and MSP relationships for equipment delivery and escalations.
- Experience with PKI/certificate lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation tooling (Ansible, Python, Terraform).
- Experience with Azure or AWS networking at a design/implementation level.
- CCNP required; progress toward or possession of CCIE strongly preferred.
USD $110,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
