Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Data Analyst to work on our Business Management team. Our team works a 9/80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls EROB facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer for Business Management.

The Data Analyst performs complex data analysis to support business operations including statistical modeling and analysis of structured and unstructured datasets to develop metrics, reports and visualizations of trends and patterns. The Data Analyst creates and maintains statistical models for ongoing and ad hoc review and analysis of data. This position uses data visualization programs, tools, and techniques to generate dashboards, reports and presentations that aid in data storytelling, understanding and interpretation of trends and patterns.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical modeling and analysis of structured and unstructured datasets to develop metrics, reports and visualizations of trends and patterns.
  • Work with business end-users to understand current and future data and analysis needs and develop technical requirements.
  • Partner with development and data management roles to identify and capture data required from internal and external sources.
  • Create and maintain statistical models for ongoing and ad hoc review and analysis of data.
  • Use data visualization programs, tools, and techniques to generate dashboards, reports and presentations that aid in data storytelling, understanding and interpretation of trends and patterns of business importance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Skills include data analysis techniques (e.g., A/B testing, association rule learning, cluster analysis, pattern recognition and predictive modeling), data analysis and visualization software (e.g., Domo, PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Ability to understand data structures.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement
  • solutions.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or
  • approaches to problems.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

Minimum Requirements

  • Level 2-Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience in related field in Data Science or closely related field or a Master’s Degree in Data Science or related field
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience in related field in Data Science or closely related field or a Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience in Data Science or related field
  • Experience in data science, data analysis, and visualization software using Power BI.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with cloud services and cloud-based analytics is a plus (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
  • Experience with TeamMate+ for risk assessment, issue tracking and reporting.
  • Experience with Python, Natural Language Processing Techniques, Graph Databases, Relational Databases and a general understanding of data storage and processing.

Job Information

Level 2-Grade 430 ($66,504 - $136,356); Level 3-Grade 440 ($79,344 - $162,732.) At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
