General Summary

The Specialist, Sustainability & Corporate Giving is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing the Company's sustainability program and corporate giving initiatives. This role supports environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals while fostering meaningful community partnerships, associate engagement, and philanthropic initiatives. The ideal candidate is both knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and creating measurable social and environmental impact, while supporting business objectives.

Reporting to the Manager, Sustainability & Corporate Giving, the position will play a vital role in supporting all areas of sustainability reporting, including compliance with state and federal regulation. The position will be tasked with collecting and manipulating large data sets sourced from a range of internal and external stakeholders. This role requires extensive cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, the position will be a champion of the Company’s community engagement and philanthropic efforts, where they will review solicitations, evaluate partnership opportunities, and support overall program implementation.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Sustainability

  • Provide overall support for the implementation of Family Dollar’s sustainability program.
  • Research sustainability trends and best practices to recommend continuous improvements.
  • Develop presentations and assist in preparing sustainability and corporate giving reports to highlight organizational impact.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to integrate sustainable business practices into daily operations.
  • Lead sustainability-related projects as needed.

Environmental

  • Review new and existing environmental regulations and inform Company on anticipated regulatory changes to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Regularly collect and manage data from multiple sources to support regulatory reporting.
  • Lead state and federal regulatory reporting efforts across several environmental areas such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), and Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic content, to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct data analysis to evaluate impact, identify trends, and support decision making on sustainability initiatives across the company.

Corporate Giving & Community Engagement

  • Support development of corporate giving and community engagement programs.
  • Serve as the lead implementer in carrying out program operations for charitable donations, sponsorships, and non-profit partnerships.
  • Collaborate with business partners to coordinate associate volunteer opportunities and community service events.
  • Develop processes and governance mechanisms to streamline program operations.
  • Review and respond to incoming funding requests
  • Conduct due diligence and evaluate requests to ensure alignment with the Company’s giving priorities.
  • Track requests and contributions and measure program outcomes and community impact.
  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead event planning for community engagement events and partner activations.
  • Support outreach efforts to community organizations and assist in managing community partnerships.
  • Maintain accurate records, budgets, and documentation, and regularly monitor program effectiveness.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Administration, Public Policy, Communications, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience within sustainability, ESG, CSR, philanthropy, community relations, or environmental compliance.
  • Experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets and strong data analysis skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to both take initiative and take direction.
  • Effective time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications - Desired But Not Required.

  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and corporate giving programs is preferred
  • Experience managing state regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with PowerBI.

Projected Salary Range: $67,500-$80,000
