- Data Extraction & Pipeline Integration: Collaborate with engineering teams to build, clean, and normalize large relational, spatial, and temporal datasets. Write and maintain structured SQL scripts and automated data workflows to ensure seamless data ingestion.
- Business Intelligence & Visualization: Conceptualize, develop, and deploy high-impact dashboards, decision-support tools, and automated reports. Create intuitive visual analytics that allow operational staff and executive leadership to safely monitor performance indicators.
- Collaboration & Communication: Act as a primary technical translator between central IT infrastructure teams and business-unit subject matter experts. Present data-driven findings, assumptions, and limitations clearly to non-technical leadership and business owners.
- Statistical Analysis & Problem Framing: Partner with operational divisions to translate complex operational challenges into concrete analytical projects. Use statistical validation methods to identify underlying trends, quantify uncertainties, and evaluate project outcomes.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Adhere strictly to the enterprise data governance framework, metadata management standards, and data quality procedures. Maintain data dictionaries, map data lineage, and ensure strict compliance with state and federal privacy standards regarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Prototyping & Innovation: Participate in building "proof-of-concept" analytical models to test the viability of emerging data streams before full-scale deployment.
Requirements & Key Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Information Systems, Business Administration, or three (3)+ years of demonstrated relevant experience.
- Intermediate-to-Expert level demonstrated proficiency with SQL
- Intermediate-to-Expert level demonstrated proficiency with statistical programming languages such Python
- Proficiency using enterprise Business Intelligence platforms (such as Google Looker, Power BI, or Tableau)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven capability to write clean technical documentation and deliver engaging data stories.
- Conceptual and practical knowledge of descriptive statistics (experience with inference preferred)
- Understanding of at least one BI platform and one enterprise cloud environment (one year preferred)
- Recent technical project experience (two years and/or 3+ recent technical projects preferred)
- Interpret technical language for nontechnical audiences (one year preferred)
- Observe and diagnose data quality issues including inconsistencies, missing values, or structural problems across multiple sources (three years preferred)
- SQL (two years preferred)
- Institutional knowledge of transportation, government, or other public-sector background.
- Translating business needs into logical problem statements (one year preferred, explain your role)
