­­­Your Role

As part of the Co-CEO Hub Technology team, the Network Engineer will support the operation, performance, and continuous improvement of Gensler’s global network environment. This role partners with senior engineers and cross-functional technology teams to monitor network health, troubleshoot issues, maintain documentation, and support the implementation of secure, reliable, and scalable network services for our practitioners worldwide. You will work onsite each day in either Gensler's Los Angeles or Oakland offices.

What You Will Do

Network Operations: Support the maintenance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Gensler’s global network environment in partnership with senior network engineering team members.

  • Operational Support: Monitor network health, respond to alerts, perform routine maintenance, and support day-to-day activities that improve availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Technical Development: Stay current with networking concepts, enterprise tools, and emerging technologies while continuing to build practical experience in network administration and engineering.
  • Performance Monitoring: Review network performance data, identify trends, document findings, and escalate complex issues with clear analysis and supporting details.
  • Security and Compliance: Follow established security, change control, and compliance practices when supporting network infrastructure and related services.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, standards, procedures, and implementation notes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with infrastructure, security, service desk, and regional technology teams to troubleshoot issues, complete assigned tasks, and support project delivery.
  • Project Support: Participate in network implementation, upgrade, and optimization activities while contributing to knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement across the team.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in network support, network administration, infrastructure operations, or a related technology role.
  • Strong understanding of core network services and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, and related troubleshooting practices.
  • Working knowledge of Layer 2 networking concepts, including switching, VLANs, STP, LACP, port channels, and PoE.
  • Working knowledge of Layer 3 networking concepts, including IP addressing, routing, VLAN interfaces, and dynamic routing fundamentals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network issues, analyze symptoms, document findings, and escalate complex problems when appropriate.
  • Strong documentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned work, prioritize tasks, and follow through in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts such as virtual networks, gateways, peering, routing, and security groups.
  • Solid understanding of computer, security, network, and storage systems and how they interact in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with technical teams, business partners, and end users.
  • Ability to follow change control processes and support safe, consistent, and well-documented implementations.
  • Familiarity with ITIL concepts or IT service management practices.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation to support business-critical network services.
  • Sound judgment, curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn from senior team members while contributing independently.
  • United States citizenship for government project administration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or exposure to network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, and SD-WAN, in an enterprise environment.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Network+, or similar certification completed or in progress.
  • Experience with automation or scripting concepts using tools such as Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Experience supporting wireless networking concepts, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with network authentication, authorization, and security policy concepts.
  • Experience using network monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Understanding of security best practices as they relate to network operations and infrastructure support.
  • Exposure to private, public, or hybrid cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience or interest in scripting languages and infrastructure automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Interest in network security certifications or training from vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, or similar providers.
  • Experience with vendors such as Dell, HPE, Palo Alto, Cisco, or Aruba.
  • Experience with tools such as NetBox, Cacti, SolarWinds, Catalyst Center, Panorama, or Aruba Central.
  • Previous experience in help desk, desktop support, server administration, or infrastructure operations.
  • If this role is located in Los Angeles, the compensation range is estimated to be between $115k-$125k plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
  • If this role is located in Oakland, the compensation range is estimated to be between $120k-$130k plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
