As a member of the Global Investigations team, you will conduct ad hoc investigations and time-sensitive blockchain analysis for TRM's public and private sector partners, and develop solutions that let TRM scale its investigative capability rapidly and effectively. As a member of the Global Investigations team, you will conduct ad hoc investigations and time-sensitive blockchain analysis for TRM's public and private sector partners, and develop solutions that let TRM scale its investigative capability rapidly and effectively. You'll work alongside experienced blockchain intelligence experts, engineers, and data scientists to deliver cutting-edge support to TRM's clients.
The Impact You Will Have
- Investigate complex cases involving phishing, blockchain exploits, hacks, terrorism finance, account takeovers, scams, money laundering, ransomware, and other illicit use of blockchain technology.
- Produce insightful reports and deliver them in writing and in briefings to TRM's customers.
- Conduct long-term research on key categories of on-chain crime, turning it into intelligence TRM's partners can act on.
- Support sensitive and complex investigations for TRM's public and private sector partners.
- Proactively identify, build, and manage relationships with industry partners to add new sources of attribution to TRM's pipeline at scale.
- Practical experience with virtual currencies and blockchain analysis; motivated to learn about new on-chain typologies as they emerge.
- 3-5+ years combined experience as an investigator or analyst, private or public sector.
- Experience briefing senior stakeholders within an organization.
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems and prioritize the most critical issues.
- Experience in seizing stablecoins.
- Comfort using AI tools to accelerate research and pattern identification, while retaining ownership of final investigative judgment.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly.
- The Global Investigations team is made up of experienced investigators who reliably work independently while staying closely connected to the team. This role suits someone with a strong crypto-investigations and LE background who can lead from a long-term, intentional perspective, not just execute tasks.
- A top candidate will be stretched by the caliber of the team and the ambiguity of the cases: novel on-chain typologies, adversarial actors, and time pressure from active investigations.
- Daily Schedule: This team generally maintains standard business hours within their respective local timezones.
- Collaboration: Team members are expected to coordinate across global timezones to ensure seamless hand-offs and coverage for time-sensitive investigations.
- On-call schedule: Participates in a formal on-call rotation to provide 24/7 coverage for high-priority events, including hacks, LE support, and other time sensitive matters.
- On-call frequency: Rotation occurs on a weekly basis. Additionally, team members may be required to respond to unique, unscheduled events on weekends as needed.
- Reacts rapidly to the movement of funds during an active investigation to preserve the trail before it goes cold.
- Supports other teams on unforeseen, time-sensitive issues within the same business day.
- Continuously ramps on new on-chain typologies as they emerge, sharing findings with the team within the same week.
