Mechanical Project Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead mechanical design and engineering activities throughout product development, prototyping, testing, and commissioning. The role requires ownership of project deliverables, coordination with cross-functional teams, and the application of mechanical engineering best practices to deliver reliable, manufacturable systems on schedule and within budget. Ideal candidates will combine strong CAD and analysis skills with practical knowledge of manufacturing, testing, and industry standards (ASME/API/ISO).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and engineering for assigned projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget targets are met.
  • Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Catia, or Siemens NX; maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Perform structural, thermal, vibration and stress analysis using ANSYS and other FEA tools to validate designs and support design iterations.
  • Create and review tolerancing, GD&T, and detailed part documentation to ensure fit, form and function.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to develop producible designs; apply DFM/DFA principles to reduce cost and improve manufacturability.
  • Define material selection, welding and fabrication requirements, sheet metal and machining/CNC processes, and oversee prototype fabrication.
  • Plan and execute testing, validation, and commissioning activities; develop test plans, run prototypes, and document results for design verification.
  • Support piping, HVAC, hydraulics and pneumatic system design as required, including routing, component selection and integration.
  • Lead DFMEA/FMEA sessions, root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve reliability and quality.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets using MS Project/Primavera; coordinate resources and communicate status to stakeholders and clients.
  • Work with quality and regulatory teams to ensure designs comply with ASME, API, ISO and other applicable standards and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with controls/PLC engineers to integrate mechanical and basic control system requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, design reviews and procurement specifications; participate in supplier evaluation and assembly trials.
  • Support installation, commissioning and handover to operations, including spares planning and maintenance documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of mechanical design and project engineering experience in industrial, energy, or product development environments.
  • Proven CAD expertise (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo; experience with Catia or Siemens NX is a plus) and strong 3D modeling skills.
  • Experience with ANSYS or equivalent FEA tools for stress, thermal and vibration analysis; familiarity with FEA best practices.
  • Hands-on knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, BOM management, manufacturing processes, machining/CNC programming and sheet metal design.
  • Experience with welding/fabrication, assembly design, materials selection and structural analysis.
  • Working knowledge of piping design, HVAC, hydraulics/pneumatics, and prototyping techniques.
  • Experience performing DFMEA/FMEA, root cause analysis and applying quality assurance and ISO processes; familiarity with ASME/API codes.
  • Strong project management skills including scheduling (MS Project/Primavera), cost estimation, budgeting and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Good understanding of DFM/DFA principles; experience collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, testing and validation processes; experience with PLC/controls basics is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and interact with clients and stakeholders.
