About the Role
The Software Systems Engineer will develop and maintain software solutions that support broadcast engineering, networking, monitoring, automation, and operational workflows. Working at the intersection of software engineering and media technology, this role focuses on building scalable tools, integrating multi-vendor systems, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the reliability of broadcast distribution platforms.
Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Hybrid)
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software applications and automation tools.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code with comprehensive error handling and logging.
- Test, debug, and enhance existing applications to improve functionality and performance.
- Develop integrations between internal platforms, monitoring systems, databases, and third-party applications.
Systems Integration & Automation
- Build and maintain automation solutions that streamline broadcast operations.
- Integrate multi-vendor systems using RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and other communication protocols.
- Improve operational visibility through dashboards, monitoring tools, and reporting solutions.
- Support workflow automation to reduce manual processes and improve system efficiency.
Database & Infrastructure
- Design, query, and maintain SQL databases.
- Work across Linux and Windows server environments.
- Support cloud and hybrid infrastructure deployments.
- Utilize containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Develop and maintain Bash scripts to automate system administration tasks.
Broadcast & Platform Engineering
- Support software systems used in broadcast distribution and transmission operations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve monitoring, troubleshooting, and platform reliability.
- Assist in supporting high-profile live broadcasts and critical production events.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives across media technology infrastructure.
Collaboration & Project Delivery
- Gather technical requirements from internal stakeholders.
- Estimate project timelines and communicate progress effectively.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and product teams across multiple locations and time zones.
- Participate in code reviews and promote software engineering best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of software development experience integrating enterprise systems.
- Experience developing monitoring, automation, and operational support tools.
- Strong SQL database design, querying, and maintenance skills.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs using JSON and XML.
- Proficiency with Git version control and Bash scripting.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong data analysis and data manipulation skills.
- Experience working in Linux and Windows environments.
- Experience supporting cloud or hybrid infrastructure.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across distributed teams.
Preferred
- Programming experience with Python, C++, or C#.
- Experience with Ansible, Netmiko, or similar automation tools.
- Familiarity with Skyline DataMiner EMS.
- Knowledge of streaming technologies such as HLS, MPEG-DASH, WebRTC, SRT, RIST, and Zixi.
- Experience with modern broadcast technologies including ST 2110, NDI, JPEG XS, and NMOS.
- Knowledge of fiber, satellite, or bonded cellular transport technologies.
- Experience with DRM platforms such as Widevine or Verimatrix.
- Familiarity with video quality monitoring standards (ETR-101 290).
- Understanding of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and media distribution architectures.
