Mechanical Engineer


Location: Hawley, Minnesota - 30 minutes East of Fargo (Onsite)


Our client, a well-established industrial equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys taking projects from concept through fabrication and installation while working closely with manufacturing and customers.


Position Summary


The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing custom mechanical equipment and systems for industrial applications. This role requires strong 3D CAD skills, practical engineering knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with manufacturing, production, and field personnel to deliver high-quality solutions.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components using 2D and 3D CAD software.


  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), material specifications, and manufacturing documentation.


  • Review, implement, and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) while supporting ongoing product enhancements.


  • Perform engineering analyses and calculations to verify equipment performance, structural integrity, and design reliability.


  • Develop equipment layouts and provide technical support for project proposals and customer quotations.


  • Analyze field performance and troubleshoot design-related issues, recommending practical engineering solutions.


  • Partner with manufacturing, production, and installation teams to ensure efficient fabrication, assembly, and commissioning.


  • Provide technical engineering support for custom equipment fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair activities.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.


  • At least 2 years of experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy equipment environment.


  • Strong proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD design software.


  • Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, structural steel design, and fabrication processes.


  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications accurately.


  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience designing industrial machinery, conveyor systems, or material handling equipment.


  • Familiarity with industrial construction practices and equipment installation.


  • Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing or fabrication operations.


  • Working knowledge of electric motors, drives, and low- to medium-voltage control systems.


  • Experience preparing technical reports, operating manuals, or customer-facing engineering documentation.
