Mechanical Design Engineer, Cathode
What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – Battery Cathode Materials.
In this role, you will join a team of mechanical design engineers responsible for delivering equipment and facility modifications and expansions that enable high-volume, high-quality cathode production. Within a demanding and fast-paced environment, you will work closely with various stakeholders to ramp up large-scale production lines.
What You'll Do
Conduct mechanical design for various solids handling & processing equipment (e.g. silos, hoppers, conveyors, piping, rotary valves, mixers) Champion efficiency, constructability, quality, and safety, adhering to company & industry recognized practices Support projects in concept development, detailed design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases Collaborate with maintenance, operations, controls, EHS, and third-party vendors to ensure projects meet budget, schedule, production, and safety requirements Engage in mechanical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts
What You'll Bring
Degree or Equivalent Experience in mechanical engineering or related field (e.g., aerospace, mechatronics) 1+ years of experience within an industrial-scale manufacturing environment Exceptional mechanical engineering fundamentals with demonstrated ability in effectively leveraging them to solve challenging technical problems Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing equipment, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, repair scopes, and design improvements Proficiency in 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks highly preferred) Strong working knowledge of fabrication & assembly processes (e.g., machining, welding) Familiarity with applicable engineering codes & standards (e.g., ASME) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
