Network Administrator - Daily Duties / Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily/weekly assignments under the guidance of the assigned Network Operations Center Manager.
- Support deployment, operational support, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of the Agency's critical enterprise architecture.
- Work with Network, Security, other IT teams, and non-IT staff to:
- Resolve problems
- Mitigate issues
- Provide technical solutions
- Ensure assignments are completed accurately and on time.
- Provide regular progress updates, task status, and deliverable reports to the assigned Project Manager.
- 3+ years of experience with Enterprise Network Infrastructure and LAN Administration.
- 3+ years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting:
- Network switches
- Wireless Access Points (WAPs)
- 3+ years of experience with:
- SD-WAN
- PKI
- Secure authentication services
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting network connectivity on:
- Windows systems
- Mobile devices
- 3+ years of experience creating, reading, and maintaining:
- Network documentation
- Network diagrams
- Current or previous network-related certifications from:
- CompTIA
- Cisco
- Microsoft
- (Indicate active or inactive status on resume)
- Cisco Networking Academy or equivalent networking bootcamp/training.
- Support enterprise network and identity initiatives, including:
- SD-WAN deployment
- PKI lifecycle management
- Secure authentication services
- Monitor, identify, and remediate issues with enterprise network and identity services.
- Support network connectivity and authentication services on Windows-based systems.
- Support connectivity and secure access on mobile devices (Apple devices).
- Manage the network and identity infrastructure lifecycle.
- Create and maintain network documentation, including:
- Network diagrams
- Coverage documentation
- Design documentation
- Assist with deployment, configuration, and support of:
- SD-WAN solutions
- PKI solutions
- Secure authentication solutions
- Perform enterprise network deployments, installations, and upgrades.
- Perform firmware, software, security, and feature upgrades across network and identity platforms.
- Monitor the Agency trouble ticket system and resolve assigned tickets.
- Serve as the primary support resource for:
- Network-related issues
- Authentication issues
- Connectivity issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve routine technical problems.
- Assist Agency staff and contractors with network, authentication, and connectivity-related issues.
- Coordinate and assist with testing and validation of network and identity solutions.
- Adhere to State and Agency security and IT policies and standards.
- Collaborate with:
- Network teams
- Security teams
- Server Hosting teams
- Assist with:
- System installations
- Network installations
- Equipment racking
- Infrastructure upgrades
- Create, maintain, review, and improve network and identity documentation.
- Plan, organize, review, and implement project milestones through completion.
- Provide updates to project teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comfortable working on ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent travel to remote office locations throughout South Carolina.
- Flexible to occasional travel beyond normal business hours.
- Work 40 hours per week for project and operational assignments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide:
- Phone support
- Desk-side support
- Email support
- Ability to communicate technical and project information to:
- IT staff
- Non-IT staff
- Leadership and stakeholders
- Sign Agency Confidentiality Agreement and/or Business Associate (BA) Agreement, if applicable.
- Ensure all web services are secure.
- Obtain approval for any schedule or work-hour changes.
- Be available onsite as required by DPH.
- Remote work requires prior Agency approval.
- Complete HIPAA and other Agency-required training.
- Participate in weekly performance reviews with DPH.
- Build productive relationships across diverse teams and organizational levels.
- Follow all Agency IT standards, policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- All work products, notes, and documentation become property of the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) and the State of South Carolina.
- Network accounts and access rights.
- Required tools and software.
- Agency-required training (including HIPAA).
- Staff assistance for application and process-related questions.
- State vehicle (when available).
- Laptop/workstation and required software.
- Ability to perform physical network infrastructure work.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and work on ladders.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel statewide using a State or personal vehicle.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Associate Degree in a relevant field; OR
- High School Diploma with equivalent work experience.
- No required certifications.
- Preference may be given to candidates with relevant certifications based on overall experience, education, and work history.
