The Software Engineer leads and oversees the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining software applications and systems according to business needs. This position is for our cross-dock WMS team, focusing on the core, foundational pieces of our "Shelf" platform, which powers our warehouse operations. Shelf is the backbone of warehouse operations—you’ll be working on mission-critical, high-impact systems that handle everything from tracking inventory to prepping products for fulfillment.
This is a full-time role and will work a hybrid schedule in Lehi, Utah.

What is a day in the life of a Software Engineer?
- Develop and maintain foundational components of our "Shelf" platform, an internal system that manages all aspects of warehouse inventory and fulfillment.
- Work with a team of front end and back end engineers and operational leaders to understand and build solutions for new projects.
- Dedicate time to "hardening" the software, proactively fixing root causes of recurring issues during your on-call rotation.
- Tackle a wide range of backend challenges to maintain and improve the system's scalability and stability.
- 1+ years of experience is preferable, though we are interested in top-tier new grads as well
- Strong proficiency in a modern backend language like Ruby, Node.js , Java, Python, or Go.
- SQL expertise is a must, with experience in databases like PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge of Ruby on Rails is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in AWS is a plus.
- A go-getter attitude with a passion for learning and taking on new challenges.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- You are seen and trusted as a technical expert at Pattern, driving new solutions and efficiencies through innovative software development.
- Your work doesn't stop at code delivery; you consider the entire product lifecycle and collaborate across functions to ensure maximum value.
- You care about code quality and collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure our solutions resonate with business needs.
- All solutions have been tested and proven for impact and cost optimization.
- You are effective at working independently and also willing to learn from other engineers.
- You will have the opportunity to be a “workstream lead” for projects where you lead out on the architecture and development of a larger feature
- Strong performance can lead to promotion to Senior Software Engineer
- You will work with other software engineers and be supervised by a lead software engineer. You will also be mentored by the manager and meet with them on a regular basis to discuss your performance. This team is data driven and results oriented. You will collaborate regularly with members of your team to implement actionable solutions. Ideas and input are encouraged from all members.
