Reporting to the Director, Global Procurement, the Global Category Manager will have direct responsibility for managing a portfolio of direct material purchases across ChemTreat’s business. This role is accountable for ensuring best-in-class cost positions, developing and executing category strategies, and serving as a subject-matter expert on market dynamics for the assigned category.
This is an on-site position based in Glen Allen, VA.
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Developing and executing a clear category strategy aligned with overall business objectives, including cost optimization, innovation, sustainability, and risk mitigation
- Defining category objectives and evaluating make-vs-buy decisions
- Conducting comprehensive spend analysis to assess volumes, supplier distribution, and cost-reduction opportunities
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, while exiting partnerships that no longer align with category objectives
- Establishing supplier KPIs and ensuring compliance to support performance, quality, and cost goals
- Proactively identifying and mitigating supply risks through dual sourcing, inventory strategies, and alternate materials
- Building and managing a robust project pipeline, executing multiple initiatives simultaneously to deliver year-over-year cost savings
- Developing and leveraging a global network of contract manufacturers to create and sustain competitive advantage
- Protecting ChemTreat’s intellectual property and mitigating risk through negotiation and execution of NDA and MSA agreements
- Communicating wins, progress, challenges, and risks to leadership using clear data and insights
- Conducting vendor and commodity analyses to improve sourcing strategies, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- Owning supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, sustainability, and transactional effectiveness
- Staying informed on evolving environmental, social responsibility, and diversity standards, regulations, and laws
- Building cost models and price forecasts to secure pricing that outperforms market benchmarks
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree or 5–7 years of relevant experience in strategic sourcing or category management, preferably within the chemicals industry
- Background, education, or strong technical acumen in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry preferred
- Proven global sourcing experience strongly preferred
- MBA is a plus
