HVAC/R Technician 1 - Courthouse
**GENERAL PURPOSE**
The HVAC/R Technician 1 position performs skilled maintenance, installation, and repair work to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**
This position reports directly to the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor and Operations & Maintenance Associate Supervisor.
**SUPERVISION EXERCISED**
This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION**
Receives work orders for repair, installation, or preventative maintenance work with heating, ventilation, and refrigeration fixtures and/or systems such as air conditioning and heating units, ice machines, refrigerators, freezers, water fountains, fans and electronic air cleaners, pumps, and related equipment. Updates and closes work order upon completion.
Reviews building and mechanical plans and drawings to identify work requirements and plans. Prepares area for work as necessary for access to affected area or system, and makes repair or alteration, installing pumps, parts, etc.
Connects associated electrical and/or electronic control, test or related equipment into systems and finishes job to ensure conformance to requirements, codes, and accepted trade standards.
Determines materials needed for jobs, checking against supplies. Secures materials and equipment for each job.
Coordinates scheduled work with other building personnel in affected areas, including the shutoff of water, power, and other elements as needed.
Follows standard safety practices, including safeguarding building users, visitors, or residents. Keeps records of jobs performed, materials used, and related information.
Monitors control systems, reporting findings to building or facility management personnel. Works with contractors, inspectors, and vendors to plan and coordinate efforts in larger installation, alteration, or repair jobs.
May instruct and oversee the work of other personnel providing assistance with jobs.
May assist other trades personnel and/or perform such maintenance work.
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE** -- Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma, which includes a vocational education certificate/credits in HVAC/R; **OR**
Completion of a post high school/college HVAC/R program; **AND**
Possession of a valid EPA Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification Type I and II is required; **AND**
Employees assigned to this title will be required to possess and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operator's license. Must have an acceptable driving record.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES **
Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and related principles, practices, methods, and techniques commonly employed in the repair, alteration, and installation of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration fixtures and systems.
Thorough knowledge of the tools, materials, and safety precautions of the heating, ventilation, and refrigeration field.
Knowledge of principles and practices addressed by and general provisions of trades, environmental, safety, and other code requirements.
Knowledge of building automation systems, including troubleshooting.
Skill in the use and maintenance of trades tools and materials.
Ability to read and interpret building and mechanical plans and sketches.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to lift carry, and maneuver into position fans, pumps, circulators, compressors, and other such heavy and/or unwieldy fixtures under very undesirable conditions.
Ability to work in close proximity to nursing facility patients, families, and visitors if required by work assignment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and contracted service personnel.
Ability to operate a personal computer to enter information into, and secure information from, established programs (daily HVAC monitoring and control systems).
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
**TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT**
Motorized vehicles, power and hand tools, and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work. Mechanic's tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance. Electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment, telephone or cell phone, personal computer, calculator, and mobile or portable radio.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift weight up to one hundred (100) pounds.
