Knowledge Management Technology Manager
Foley Hoag seeks an experienced and committed KM (Knowledge Management) Technology Manager who will support the technology initiatives of our Knowledge Management & Innovation team. The firm has prioritized the development of a robust knowledge management function, and technology sits at the core of our strategy to meet evolving client needs. Reporting to the Director of Knowledge Management & Innovation, the KM Technology Manager will assist in identifying the knowledge needs of the firm’s legal departments and business services teams and, working closely with the IT department, will find or develop and manage KM applications and technology-based solutions responsive to those needs.
This hybrid role requires in-office presence in our Boston or New York Office at least three days per week to foster collaboration and connection. On-site expectations and specific days may evolve depending on team and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist in gathering and analyzing business needs, prepare use case documentation for projects, and manage the internal solution review and approval process.
- Act as project manager in the acquisition and implementation of KM legal technology tools ensuring deliverables meet requested specifications and are delivered on budget and on time.
- Work closely with the firm’s project management office and IT teams, including infrastructure and information security teams, to implement projects.
- Track and report on KM application usage and performance and assist users and technical teams with troubleshooting systems and integrations.
- Develop and manage support sites, user guides, FAQs, and internal documentation for KM technology tools.
- Keep abreast of emerging legal technologies and administer pilot programs; promote the adoption of KM processes and technology tools.
- Develop and maintain practice-centric intranet SharePoint sites for firm practice groups with embedded self-service KM tools and ensure the related content responds to each practice group’s priorities.
- Perform data entry, and analysis as necessary to populate new databases and support KM applications.
- Assist with KM applications training as part of onboarding for attorneys, paralegals, and other professional staff as necessary.
- Organize and maintain KM&I department resources.
- Perform other duties as requested and assigned by Director of Knowledge Management & Innovation.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience working with legal tech applications at a large law firm; experience with knowledge management and generative AI solutions preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; project management certification a plus.
- Extensive experience managing vendors, procurement processes, and budgets.
- Experience with SharePoint 365, iManage, and other common applications used by large law firms.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate appropriately.
- Technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn new applications.
- Flexible and able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
- Team player willing to assist with KM tasks as requested, and to support innovation initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering strong collaborative relationships across all levels of the firm and serving as a trusted, solutions-oriented partner.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Contract Express and to develop automated document templates.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal affairs and personnel information.
Compensation range is $150,000 to $184,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
