This is a "hybrid" role. The selected candidate will work in the Arlington, VA office three days per week (Tuesday-Thursday).
Summary
The Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer is a key technical leader responsible for designing, building, and operating secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions across hybrid and cloud environments. This role ensures the stability, performance, and modernization of enterprise systems while advancing the organization’s cloud-first strategy. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Engineer will lead complex migration initiatives, implement automation and DevOps practices, and enforce security and compliance frameworks. This individual will collaborate with IT leadership, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-value solutions, mentor junior team members, and establish standards and best practices that drive operational excellence.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and implement enterprise infrastructure solutions across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud platforms (with a focus on Microsoft Azure).
- Lead cloud migration initiatives, including workload assessments, planning, execution, and optimization of applications and infrastructure.
- Act as a subject matter expert in cloud services, virtualization, networking, storage, and identity management, providing guidance across the IT organization.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation frameworks (Terraform, PowerShell, Python, ARM/Bicep templates) to streamline provisioning, monitoring, and operations.
- Drive adoption of DevOps and CI/CD practices, partnering with development teams to ensure secure and efficient application deployment pipelines.
- Ensure compliance with security and governance policies, including implementation of identity and access management, encryption, patching, and vulnerability management.
- Proactively monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance, capacity, and availability, addressing issues before they impact business operations.
- Establish and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity strategies, ensuring readiness and resiliency of critical services.
- Mentor and coach junior staff, promoting knowledge sharing, skills development, and adherence to infrastructure best practices.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architectural diagrams, operational runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 7+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering, including at least 3+ years designing and managing cloud-based solutions.
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, networking, storage, identity, governance).
- Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and hybrid integration models.
- Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and infrastructure integration with application development.
- In-depth understanding of enterprise security frameworks, including IAM, conditional access, Zero Trust, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure, performance, and networking issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams, setting standards for quality, reliability, and innovation.
- Experience with hybrid cloud architecture and multi-cloud strategies.
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS).
- Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM frameworks for change, incident, and problem management.
- Certifications such as:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent security certification
