Job Description: This Tool Maker position is on-site, full-time, only.
Job Summary: Builds new molds from blueprints and CAD Data.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop mold specifications from general description in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Construct molds requiring the use of a full array of automated and manual machine tools including CAD and EDM Sinker.
- Study mold specifications; plan and execute sequence of operations.
- Select and purchase materials including special materials.
- Construct molds by setting up and operating automated and manual machine tools including lathe, milling machine, and grinder to machine parts specifications.
- Responsible for verifying conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Responsible for verifying dimensions and alignment using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks.
- Leads others on the project team and ensures the instructions are clear and proper manufacturing process and procedures are being used to create the necessary components. Verifies the final work of others on the project team to ensure proper size and fits to the finished assembly.
- Ensure the building of molds to achieve accurate relationships and fitting of parts to extremely close tolerances on such items as pin length, venting areas with no accompanying flash, etc.
- Draws or sketches tools to be fabricated using SolidWorks.
- Devise mechanisms to meet special requirements such as End of Arm Tooling. Analyze mold modifications to meet customer or production needs.
- Performs repairs to damaged tooling as needed.
- Detect and report damaged mold, equipment and unusual conditions to supervisor.
- Maintain work areas, tools and equipment.
- Responsible for keeping Tool Room area clean and orderly as well as observe all health and safety rules, regulations and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3 years of experience; OR a two-year post high school diploma / certificate in a related field and technical trade and 7 years of experience.
- Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment.
- SolidWorks experience.
- Understanding in reading electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Knowledgeable of PLC programs.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Two Year Technical School preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience.
- Working knowledge and ability to use all tool room equipment.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift or otherwise move frequently for extended periods
- Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. frequently, or more occasionally
- Walk, stand or otherwise move about continuously
- Exposure to machine shop physical hazards including chemicals which may require respiratory protection
- Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
