Founding Machine Learning Engineer

Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for a Founding ML Engineer for our client, a cutting-edge neuroscience focused AI company in San Francisco, CA! This is a full-time, direct hire position based onsite in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and transition of our ML codebase from prototype to scalable, production-quality infrastructure.
• Architect and build robust training pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and internal tooling to enable the team to train over one model per week.
• Drive technical decisions around machine learning algorithms, training methodologies, and infrastructure architecture.
• Manage, mentor, and collaborate with engineering team members to ensure high coding standards and best practices.
• Develop demo prototypes with comprehensive user experience and UI to showcase model capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with research and product teams to integrate new insights and ensure seamless deployment.
  
  

Qualifications

• Proven experience in developing large-scale machine learning and data infrastructure.
• Startup or early-stage company experience, especially in founding or scaling engineering teams.
• Strong academic background in Computer Science, AI, or related fields. Top-tier degrees or outstanding academic achievements are a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing engineering teams under pressure, with excellent communication skills.
• Hands-on expertise with modern AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and at least 2+ years of traditional software development experience.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with a passion for innovation and problem-solving.
  
  

Compensation & Benefits
