Job Description:

Overall Purpose:

As a Professional Advanced Technical Support Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be responsible for planning, designing, building, configuring, and commissioning telecommunications equipment, networks, and systems. This role involves supporting L3H engineering staff to identify and respond to service-related problem areas, and performing implementation, configuration, installation, and testing on Cisco network devices. Utilizing your knowledge in the maintenance, operation, and implementation of network transport solutions, you will configure, test, implement, and maintain both wired and wireless networking (LAN/WAN) technologies and devices.

This position is contingent upon candidate submitting for and receiving FAA clearance

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and manage follow-up activities to determine root causes, recreate problems in the lab, identify workarounds, and certify vendor fixes or design changes for implementation in the network.
  • Develop scripts to proactively identify known defect signatures, define non-intrusive recovery processes, and extract forensic data from network elements to analyze patterns of unexpected behavior.
  • Manage equipment and software vendor relationships, ensuring objectives are met and providing feedback during maintenance contract negotiations.
  • Plan and prepare for the introduction of new technology and changes into the network, including review and signoff of lab designs, as well as the design and testing of equipment and software certification.
  • Develop and test detailed methods and procedures for the introduction of new technology and ensure a smooth handoff to Tier-2 Network Operations and Project Management for field implementation.
  • Create troubleshooting guides and deliver knowledge transfer on new designs and technology.
  • Gather and analyze network element field data to validate expected improvements and features of field changes.
  • Manage the risk associated with the introduction of new technology.
  • Assist with network troubleshooting and coordinate acceptance of new IT services and managed elements in the IT infrastructure.
  • Utilize network diagnostic tools and provide input to problem and inventory control databases.
  • Perform testing and maintenance activities on the network as required.
  • Serve as the customer interface for scheduling network changes and coordinate the Change Management process with the customer.
  • Use network management tools primarily for fault management purposes.
  • Understand and apply escalation, incident management, and change management processes and procedures.
  • Conduct network performance analysis and capacity planning, understanding the impact of network configuration options.
  • Operate and use a management toolset, including fault, configuration, performance, and security tools.
  • Stay informed about vendor and industry standards and procedures for respective technical specialties.
  • Provide technical leadership to less experienced personnel individually or as part of a team.
  • Possess strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Position contingent upon candidate submitting for and receiving FAA clearance
  • Proficient Understanding of Cisco routers and switches, IOS configuration, upgrades, replacements
  • Proficient in BGP, OSPF, GDOI, Crypto, GetVPN, IPSEC, Multicast, ACL, and GRE tunnels
  • Proficient in Layer 1 T1, T3, OC3, frame relay, satellite, microwave, wireless, and layer 2 and 3 Protocols
  • Proficient Understanding of network design, analysis, and implementation
  • Proficient in layer 2 Ethernet circuits and dot1Q encapsulation
  • Basic Understanding of RF and Signaling techniques

Desired Qualifications:

  • Actively maintained CCNA, CCNP, and CISSP certifications
  • Bachelor of Science in CS, EE, Math, Physics, MIS, Telecom, Sciences
  • 5-8 years of experience
