Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer will drive continuous improvement at WSC through the use and application of Lean mfg. methodologies to study and improve manufacturing operations, and to enhance WSC’s competitiveness in the global arena. This position combines a strong foundation in manufacturing systems and processes, supply chain / quality / project, and operations management to develop and improve manufacturing processes for this industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of quality building materials.

Duties To Include (not Limited To)
- Evaluates manufacturing processes; designs and conducts research programs; applies knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; confers with equipment vendors; solicits observations from operators.
- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Supports product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Supports manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Communicates manufacturing engineering information, as needed, both horizontally and vertically across the organization.
- Completes design and development projects by training and guiding operators and technicians, as needed.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Creativity and the ability to use modern technology in the manufacturing process.
- Familiarity with today’s manufacturing best practice processes and concepts.
- Communication skills and the ability to interact with junior as well as senior employees.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet expected goals on time using advanced computerized technologies.
- Good managerial skills and the ability to make critical decisions and use cost-effective methods in manufacturing process.
- Enthusiasm and have a positive approach to problem-solving.
- BS or MS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, or closely-related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- ASQ certification as Certified Six Sigma Black Belt very desirable but not required.
- Experience implementing Lean and Six Sigma strongly preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in manufacturing and distributing building products a strong plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
