What You’ll Do
The Supplier Quality Engineer will be tasked to build and/or support a supplier quality system that meets the stringent requirements GTI flows down, offering specific subject matter expertise concerning stampings, welding, steel and electro-mechanical assemblies The Supplier Quality Engineer will report to the Director of Supplier Quality and be responsible for ensuring supplier and customer contract requirements are met. Will facilitate and lead critical Suppliers’ compliance with select Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools such as Approved Vendor List (AVL), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEAs), Control Plans, et cetera within ISO 9001, and BESS Industry framework. Work with suppliers to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste; and provision of continuous improvement to meet quality standards.

You Will
- Implement vendor auditing as part of the construction of GTI AVL including quality systems, statistical capability, destructive and non-destructive testing / inspection, configuration management, lot acceptance, and continuous improvement functions.
- Develop and implement an effective system for communication, rapid containment, root-cause corrective action, and continuous improvement to prevent recurrence of production, quality and system deficiencies for all external supplier processes and internal Supplier Scorecards and disruptions.
- Assist from a Supplier perspective, GTI process yields; defects escapes; the cost of poor quality; delivery on time disruptions.
- Ensure Supplier issues are properly tracked and effectively closed through the SCAR’s/ Eight Discipline (8D) methodology
- Provide effective cascade down of Contract review for Quality Assurance specifications and adherence prior to new contract proposals and awards, then interacts closely with suppliers to proactively mitigate disruptions and maintain strong working relationships, most especially with large scale or Contract Manufacturers.
- Facilitates a sustainable and robust Quality Management System across critical suppliers.
- Educate and facilitate the use of the Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools (e.g., 5S, Standard Work, TPM, Kaizen events, etc.) in response to poor performing suppliers where GTI objectives of Safety, Quality, Delivery On-Time, and Productivity are impacted.
- Lead specific supplier development strategies, manage key performance indicators, and mitigate with Purchasing Assistance any commercial issues.
- Minimize supplier quality costs and maximize GTI customer satisfaction while ensuring that frozen procedures, processes, and sub-suppliers are adhered to.
- The employee must regularly interact positively with co-workers, supervisors, and managers; work under severe time constraints and meet multiple demands from several people.
- Travel %: potentially 10% to 50% in a year
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum education bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality Systems, Manufacturing, or similar education
- Minimum 5 years work experience in Quality; preferably in Solar, Automotive or Aerospace
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Program Management experience a plus
- Certification as an American Society for Quality CSQP, CQE, or CQA is a plus
- Working experience with AIAG APQP and Core Tools required or willing to assimilate within 3 months.
- Hands on experience with SAP or advanced ERP systems preferred.
