Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Manager, Employee Relations to be a part of our People team to support our mission. As the Employee Relations Manager, you will be the point of contact for the relationships across the organization and provide ER knowledge in order to support Virgin Galactic. You are responsible for evaluating and enhancing human resource policies and procedures to further enable a positive, diverse, safe, and ethical work environment.

As the Employee Relations Manager, you will be the point of contact for the relationships across the organization and provide ER knowledge in order to support Virgin Galactic. You are responsible for evaluating and enhancing human resource policies and procedures to further enable a positive, diverse, safe, and ethical work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provides knowledge of Employee Relations (ER) strategies to drive improvements in ER practices within the organization based on trust, mutual respect, performance management, and accountability.
- Helps lead the comprehensive communications strategy to promote ER best practices.
- Maintains People team policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance and enhance the workplace and culture.
- Supplies People team leadership and the Legal team with knowledge of ER to help assess employment risk based on the regulatory landscape, while keeping informed on new or anticipated changes.
- Facilitates employee relations investigations, making recommendations on appropriate courses of action, matching investigation strategy to the risk, sensitivity, and confidentiality of the investigation.
- Manages employee issues and complaints working in partnership with other People, Legal, and compliance related teams.
- Uses complete knowledge to establish that cases are handled fairly, consistently, in a timely fashion, and accordance with Virgin Galactic’s culture, policies, values and applicable laws.
- Acts as counsel to the People team and other business leaders on ER issues, trends and risks regarding any business decisions, including disciplinary matters or situations.
- Creates, reviews and refreshes training offerings depending on company needs and external regulations.
- Advises leaders on how to handle serious and disciplinary matters, sometimes even requiring investigations.
- Investigates, documents, and provides summaries on a caseload of investigations regarding matters such as retaliation, harassment, and or discrimination, including producing dashboards.
- Leads interactive processes for religious and medical accommodation requests and make appropriate recommendations.
- Develops and conducts training to leaders, managers, employees, Talent Partners and other stakeholders.
- Enhances cross-functional partnerships to help advise on approaches to leaves, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
Required Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree preferred.
- 7+ years of Employee Relations/Human Resources managing complex global investigations.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Excellent planning and problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to remain positive, collaborative and objective while under pressure.
- Proven track record of positively influencing leaders, teams and stakeholders.
- Expert knowledge of ER, labor relations, training, conflict resolution and direct experience leading complex global investigations at all levels including executive level.
- Understanding of FMLA, EEO laws, ADA and other employment-related state and federal laws & regulations
- Strong Emotional Intelligence and a Growth Mindset.
- Ability to be a coach, mentor, advise and partner with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
- Excellent leadership and management skills, ability to prioritize tasks, apply good intrapersonal skills and utilize available resources to accomplish company goals.
- Experienced decision maker who uses good reasoning and sound judgment required.
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality is required.
- Competency using basic functions of the MS Office suite of tools.
- Must be self-motivated and have an enhanced ability to prioritize/plan in a fast-paced, high growth environment.
- Focuses on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables everyday.
- Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.
- Holds themselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.
- Bilingual, preferred (Spanish/English).
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position – 8 hours minimum.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to five (5) pounds (unassisted).
- Work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
