Seneca Federal Health is seeking a Museum Specialist, Historical Support in Silver Spring, MD. This team member will provide technical support to the historical division and is primarily responsible for assisting with collection management of the collection to include documenting and preparing historical artifacts for storage and use by researchers or exhibitions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts work with regard to acquisition, handling, cataloging, storage and conservation of material objects and associated materials.
- Compiles, organizes and preserves records and supporting documentation for all items in Historical Division collections.
- Enters and maintains electronic information on Historical Collection objects in collections management database Ke EMu.
- Performs and provides technical internal and external research assistance services.
- Conducts and conveys research on collections care and management.
- Develops guidelines for policy implementation.
- Makes contributions to exhibits and programs by participation on planning, working with exhibits and production staff.
- Advises on handling and displaying of historical artifacts.
- Receives OSHA required annual physical for non-lab-based collections staff.
Requirements::
- Master’s degree in museum studies, history, history of science, or a related degree.
- 2-3 years of relevant collection management experience.
- Expert oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to acquire and maintain occupational health clearance for respirator use.
- Ability to work in confined collections storage areas and use basic materials handling equipment such as ladders, pallet jacks, and lifts.
- Excellent object handling skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with miliary or technology collections.
- Knowledge of medical history, military history, or history of technology preferred.
- Experience with museum collections databases, especially KE Emu software.
- Experience completing or supporting large scale inventory projects.
