JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Specialist position has basic knowledge in environmental processes and education in applying scientific theory and methods to identify, research, and resolve environmental issues in the areas of regulatory compliance, public health, environmental health, and pollution prevention.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Employees, Managers, and Supervisors throughout the corporation, and various external customers,vendors, consultants, and governmental regulatory officials.

MAJOR TASKS

  • Plans and executes field work and data collection pursuant to state and federal regulations, utilizing GPS-based devices and GIS analysis.
  • Conducts environmental assessments, including Wetland and Waters of US Delineations/Determinations to USACE procedures, threatened/endangered species habitat assessments, and vegetation assessments, with preferred experience in biological resource assessments (e.g., habitat surveys, wetland/stream functional assessments).
  • Leads field teams and contributes to the development of field practicums.
  • Performs and monitors compliance inspections throughout construction phases.
  • Collaborates on the preparation of technical reports and presentations summarizing field findings for project managers, regulatory agencies, and clients.
  • Communicates effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal cross-functional teams to establish and maintain relationships that support company goals and business development.
  • Demonstrates understanding of NEPA and federal environmental laws, with proven ability to analyze and apply regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with aquatic resource delineations and Section 404 permitting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience drafting technical documents.
  • Proficient in GIS/map interpretation and GPS-based data collection.
  • Strong vegetation identification skills across multiple USACE regions (Great Plains, Western Mountains, Valleys, Atlantic and Gulf Coast, Arid West).
  • Detail-oriented with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position will require duties in both field settings and office settings, (example: in order to collect data, do field evaluations within the applicable field settings, and to write reports, perform research, conduct, present, and attend meetings the applicable office settings), as outlined in the job functions which correlates to the physical job requirements. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will alternate between performing field tasks to obtain information that will be analyzed and summarized within the office setting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. MENTAL DEMANDS

STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE

Topographic OM, Inc. in office Standard business hours is Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. The specific schedule for this role will be based on location and department.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

TRAVEL: Travel to worksites may be required.
