The Position
The Senior Cost Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our financial records and actively participates in the preparation of financial statements, reporting, and the establishment of internal controls. This position collaborates closely with the accounting team and various departments to deliver insights related to inventory management and cost of goods sold, thereby supporting the efficiency of the company's financial operations. Additionally, the Senior Cost Accountant will serve as a mentor to junior accountants, fostering professional growth within the team.

Reports to Site Manager.
Essential Functions
Analyze and report COGS across manufacturing operations, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial plans
Collaborate with production, supply chain, and finance teams to drive cost transparency and variance analysis and provide insights on trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for cost reduction
Oversee inventory valuation, reconciliation, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards
Monitor and improve controls around inventory transactions, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes
Manage inventory adjustments and coordinate closely with operations on inventory accuracy
Develop and maintain methodologies for excess and obsolete inventory reserves, including quarterly calculations and adjustments, ensuring reserves reflect current business conditions and risks
Partner with FP&A and commercial teams on product lifecycle impacts and supply planning
Lead annual standard cost roll processes, including material, labor, and overhead allocations. Maintain cost structures and ensure cost models reflect operational realities. Analyze variances between standard and actual costs and provide actionable recommendations
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities related to cost accounting ensuring accuracy and timeliness of journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal reporting, as well as maintain compliance with internal controls (SOX), policies, and procedures
Act as a financial advisor to manufacturing, supply chain, and procurement teams supporting capital investment projects, operational planning, and cost efficiency initiatives
Drive continuous improvement in cost accounting processes, systems, and analytics
Other duties, as assigned
Physical Requirements
100% work scheduled based on-site at Bloomington, Indiana facility. Ability to sit at a desk.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study from an accredited university, required
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, required
Public accounting experience, preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, required
ERP system experience, preferred
CPA or in-progress CPA, is a plus
Adaptability and continuous learning, required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail, required
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams, required
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, required
