We are looking for an On-Call Culinary Instructor for our Kneaded Culinary Academy, Bakery & Catering team!

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Culinary Services and Hospitality and following established procedures, the Culinary Instructor plays a key role in driving the success of the Kneaded Culinary Academy, as well as the Kneaded Bakery and Catering operations. Job performance blends culinary excellence with instructional leadership, delivering hands-on training, supporting Instructional Assistants, mentoring Culinary Academy Apprentices and Students to meet educational and operational goals. Performance of the typical responsibilities and duties requires the ability to perform the job duties, involving job-related matters generally of limited to moderate complexity.

Typical Responsibilities And Duties

  • Communicates regularly with the Director of Culinary Services and Hospitality, the Sous Chef, and other staff to ensure the needs of students are being met and classes are scheduled effectively.
  • Collaborates with community members and educational partners to understand their students’ needs and tailors Culinary Academy services accordingly
  • Supports recruitment efforts; including tabling at events, interviewing potential students, and guiding them in job readiness, vocational portfolio development, and continuous life skills.
  • Collaborates with the Finance team to assist in writing MOU’s, invoicing, and reviewing contracts.
  • Teaches students of the Culinary Academy, on and off campus, including communicating with candidates, interviewing prospective students, teaching the curriculum, assessing students for program completion, and assisting students after program completion.
  • Reviews the budgets at the direction of the Director of Culinary Services and Hospitality for Kneaded and the Culinary Academy to inform decisions about future curriculum, catering, program goals, or adjustments in spending.
  • Assists the Catering Coordinator, Sous Chef, and Director of Hospitality and Culinary Services in pricing, reviewing the performance of catering events, and providing insight into department goals.
  • Handles logistics for the Culinary Academy in collaboration with the Kneaded Bakery and Catering team which includes scheduling classes, preparing ingredients, ensuring follow through on academy contracts, purchasing, storing, and maintaining equipment.
  • Continuously reviews the curriculum and lesson planning, developing new curriculum when needed to serve the changing needs of our clients and staff.
  • Maintains clean, safe kitchen and dining room which includes but is not limited to: cleaning tables and chairs, restocking supplies, washing dishes, sweeping, and mopping floors according to Health Department regulations when required.
  • Every employee has the opportunity and responsibility to participate in one or more activities each year that support the performance and quality improvement (PQI) of RCS programs and services. Activities might involve membership on a PQI committee or work group, service as a peer reviewer, data collection for PQI and evaluation purposes, completion of PQI questionnaires and surveys or participation in focus groups, or other activities as identified by PQI committees or work groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule

  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. to meet the needs of the customer with a 2-week lead time.

Education, Training And Experience

  • Three-five years related work experience and/or degree in the Hospitality Industry.

License(s)

  • Food Safety Manager Certification or equivalent sanitation and food safety certification, or ability to obtain certification within 1 months of hire.
  • California driver’s license
  • Applicant must hold a valid CTE credential in Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation industry with emphasis in Food Service and Hospitality or a Valid Home Economics credential or ability to qualify for the CTE credential.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Ability to use kitchen equipment daily.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to hear sound that may signal a hazardous situation in the kitchen, and ability to understand warnings from other staff regarding dangers in the kitchen.
  • Ability to sense odors which may signal a hazardous situation in the kitchen.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Basic Knowledge of correct storage of food, supplies, and chemicals.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Integrate academics and follow CTE (or other) standards.
  • Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning as well as flexibility to adapt to school and student needs.
  • Write lesson plans and develop projects for individuals and group instruction.
  • Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students learning styles, abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance as required by Title XXII licensing regulations.
