Position Summary
The HIV/STD Tester and Counselor provides pre and post-test counseling, conducts HIV/STD testing, and collects and documents the appropriate data on clients seeking testing services. The position makes appropriate referrals to the Damien Cares clinic and the PrEP team. The tester conducts outreach, education and offsite testing to targeted populations. You must have strong customer service and organizational skills. Onsite training provided.

Experience with HIV testing and/or community outreach is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish/English or Creole/English is preferred for this position but not required. Driving and reliable transportation are required for work-related purposes.
Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.

Duties And Responsibilities

- Provide rapid HIV/STD testing, as well as pre and post-testing counseling.
- Reliable Transportation is required to get to and from outreach locations.
- Participate in outreach strategies such as street and bathhouse outreach to find and test individuals who are at high risk for HIV.
- Build relationships with community partnerships to expand testing to the focus population.
- Participate in evaluative and quality assurance activities and maintain professional accountability to the agency, funders, and clients served.
- Provide direct crisis intervention services when appropriate.
- Document and maintain client records, including entering them into appropriate data systems, tracking prevention plans, and writing progress notes.
- Prepare reports as requested.
- Directly collaborate and coordinate with all prevention programming to assure individuals who test negative but are at high risk receive referrals to the PrEP and harm reduction programs.
- Facilitate linkage to HIV care for individuals who test positive for HIV.
- Provide resources, consultation, and training on HIV/STI prevention as needed.
- Participate in health fairs, community events, and agency speaking events to provide education and knowledge about HIV/AIDS/STI and the services of The Damien Center.
- Be available to work for up to two evenings each week and one weekend each month.(This includes none traditional hours)
- Perform special assignments and other work on an as-needed basis.

- FLSA Status: Hourly, Full-time, Non-Exempt
- Leader: HIV/STI Testing and Counseling Program Manager
- Salary: $21.79/hr
- 150 hours of PTO in the first year followed by 195 hours per year moving forward.
